Yeah it doesnt sit so well with me.
If the club were saved from extinction by this then it mightve been better. If all of their fans were in favour, then fair enough. If people have joined/happen to live near Gravesend, I'd be interested to hear more on whether these two situations were the case.
Taken at face value though, it doesnt quite seem right. Whilst I think that fans with a passion for a club can successfully direct it, im less convinced that they can successfully choose the team. And whilst Im partly intrigued to see how it goes, Im at the same time, perhaps from a slightly selfish pov, concerned that if it fails, it will tarnish the fan involvement approach as a whole, which has until now had some success (all be it with an arguably more pragmatic approach) e.g. FCUM (we are famous at the very least on North West Tonight! ;-)), AFC Wimbledon, Brentford. _________________ Geschunden durch den (Hamburg) Sport Verein....Samstag ist Selbsmord |

Been reading thread with great interest as the club was revealed yesterday to be Ebbsfleet United.
Great deal of controversy at the start of the season as the Gravesend & Northfleet FC name was dropped and the club became Ebbsfleet United, mainly because of the new international station at Ebbsfleet, near Gravesend.
Sure that Ebbsfleet Utd will be glad of the cash, but s shame it wasn't Northwich Victoria as they nearly folded recently.
Still, i can see both sides of the argument but i'm glad that the money's gone to a non-league team, delighted that it ain't the afcwimbledon tossers... _________________ He didn't go round nowhere, i just sent him round ! |

in 25 words or less andy: why are they tossers? are they a bit elitist about their venture? _________________

Would be interested in any information on Ebbsfleet Utd as the website has crashed since the announcement? _________________ "When you don't score goals it is not easy to win."

i think you'e being a tad too diplomatic there, shakers. i see valid points from both sides of this argument, but i think mr j deacon needs to chill out a bit and lay off with the low blows. graeme was only having a discussion, there was no need to start insulting him. and i don't find it hard to believe a german hasn't heard of FC United. deacon suggested that it was national news - correct you are deacon, NATIONAL news (not international news). i'd say there a probably plenty of footy fans around the world who've never heard of FC United, as non-league english teams are rarely a headline story in peru, etc! |
spoke to a german from hamburg this morning and he'd heard of FC United and the Unibond.
We also have a german television crew visiting us tomorrow and they want to interview fans.
I don't think FC can be classed as a small regional news story - especially as they've already played in germany and are due to play in a german tournament next year (I believe) |

I'm a member of MyFootballClub, I was really active at first, but numerous things put me off, not least the undemocratic interfering of the "opperator" - the owner of the website who now basically run the club, even though the members are supposed to be doing that... I could go on & on. |

No disrespect intended but Ebbsfleet United sounds to me like one of the teams you used to get in 'Roy of the Rovers'....

Well "Ebbsfleet" is the more-or-less made up name of a town as yet unbuilt, and a station as yet unopened... And let's not even get started on the name change (they were called Gravesend & Northfleet 12 months ago). I tried to russle up enthusiasm on the MyFC forums to offer the fans the chance of changing the name back, but the thing which killed that idea was that the fans had pretty much totally accepted the name! What hope for club "identity"?!?!
And, no, I wont be going to Wembley. Will probably play one-on-one Futebol de Salao with my 8 year old instead... |

Thought I'd give an update: MyFC Ltd. - the company which runs the website and effectively controls the MyFC IPS Society - has started banning members from the website - the sole arena for debate and information - for posting critical or questioning comments. It's an absolute joke, an insult to "democracy". You'd be better off supporting a fucking big 4 club on television!
If you hear anyone considering signing up to MyFC, warn them off.

I know what you mean, but if it was truly like Animal Farm then at least we would have had the initial revolution! MyFC is and never was revolutionary. It is run by bores with no interest in anything close to footballing radicalism. |
