...well, what can I say...my club will be dinamo zagreb. but, in present time only for sentimental reason, for some old days .-). now, this is nationalistic club with army of right-wing so called ˝patriotic˝ supporters. they are also racist, homophobic, etc...(all the worst)...for me, there is no place on their stadium...also, there is no football or any other club with ,antifa, anarcho or any kind of left-wing supporters, not even a smallest group...all supporters groups in croatia are more or less the same; nationalistic, patriotic, right-wing...
so, I can say, that the only football club i really care about is FC St. Paulj...for a long time...and in the future...

Hi Diabolino

Really sorry to hear about your situation. It's a shame that you don't feel there is any club for you in Croatia at the moment. Unfortunately what you say backs up my perception of football supporters across the former Yugoslavia at the moment.

I have met fans of both Dynamo Zagreb and Hajduk Spilt who have been known to follow Celtic at games in central Europe. They have always seemed like a decent bunch, however I have never got into any political discussions with them. (drinking beer in a park or town square with several thousand other people is not usually conducive to that!). I do worry that some football fans in eastern European countries do latch onto Celtic because they perceive them as Nationalist and Catholic, and aren't aware of (or ignore) the left-wing, tolerant, all-welcoming attitude that many Celtic supporters work hard to generate in the club.

I was particularly conscious of this with Fernencvaros fans when we played MTK in Budapest. There were a lot of "Fradi" fans around with Celtic strips and from speaking to a few it seemed it was mostly just down to the colour. Personally it's a club I'd like to distance myself from, though if some of their fan take an interest in Celtic and that starts to change attitudes then I guess that can only be a good thing.

Sorry if that sounds like I am guilty of what so many at this end of Europe do to everyone that lives in the former communist part of the continent - assume you are all pretty much the same from Estonia to Georgia - I know that's not the case!

Bugger!!

I'd decided that when England don't qualify I would follow Croatia next year - probably due to the Niko Kranjcar/Portsmouth connection!! Perhaps I'll think again.

Actually I was in Croatia last year and it is clearly a very "macho" society. Whilst in Split I went to see Hajduk at home to Zagreb (not Dynamo) and enjoyed the experience. It did, however, feel a bit like stepping back 30 years to UK football in the seventies - VERY laddish, male dominated and just a little "dangerous". Mind you, I wore my Pompey shirt and no-one bothered me!!

But, hey, Diabolino, welcome to the Board.

John x

PS: If not Croatia then who?

A real shame. Whilst there does seem to be the odd club (correct me if Im wrong, but I was under the impression that Velez Mostar of Bosnia were pretty left wing and relatively inclusive – they seem to be very keen on plastering hammer and sickles all over walls in the city, and Ive read they have a greater mix of Bosnian/Serbian/Croatians amidst their ranks than say their rivals Zrinjski), it does seem that so many fans from the Eastern Europe seem to have become disheartened with their home clubs due to the right wing direction their ultras have taken. I met various people in Belgrade for example who used to go to Red Star but have given up due to the violence and bigotry (not to mention weak opposition).

Hope things improve.

Hi to all...
I`ll try to explain the situation in croatia...using some qutoes from yours posts.
˝It's a shame that you don't feel there is any club for you in Croatia at the moment. Unfortunately what you say backs up my perception of football supporters across the former Yugoslavia at the moment.˝
OK. I have to ask is it shame for me. I really don`t feel there is any club in Croatia for me. It is not only a problem in supporters. The people from clubs are also in same movie. Across the stadiums in Croatia, fans always sing a song as a; kill serbian, kill bosnian (muslims), kill gypsies...often use nazzi zieg heil salute. Few weeks ago, when dinamo won against ajax, i was on the airport with some people to see how they welcoming players, and of course...zieg heil and nazzi songs...
I agree with Bhachgen, lots of people support Celtic. But, as you sad, because they perceive them as Nationalist and Catholic...
Something on WaddockHunt post Smile))...You notice excellent, it is clearly a very "macho" society Smile)).
The biggest supporter group in croatia are Torcida from Split and Bad Blue Boys (BBB) from Zagreb. There is Armada from Rijeka and Kohorta Osijek. But, Torcida and BBB are the most important. Torcida is old group, from 1950`s. They use latino style with flags and lots of colours. BBB are from 1986, and like so called english style. They hate each other. But, politicly, it˙s the same. I`m not sure for Torcida, but BBB have lots of nazzi skinheads in the group. But, in croatia there is no other skinheads except nazzi...
In former jugoslavia area, maybe some bosnian supporters are ok. I know they have some antifa supporters (Velez Mostar). And some smaller groups. But, bosnia have three part, serbian, croatian and bosnian. Serbs and croatians clubs are very nationalistic orientation.
In serbia, there is a group of antifa supporters from FC Vojvodina Novi Sad. They have some red and SHARP skinheads groups on their matches. Other groups are maybe less nazzi than croatian supporters, but they have very strong nationalistic movement. And they really hate gypsies, muslims (bosnian) and jews. Manny times in serbia, football supporters attacking gypsy people, and few times they even kill some. They also burn muslim curch.
I don`t know for slovenian, macedonian and montenegro supporters, but pretty sure there is no antifa groups...

You can see croatian supporters in ˝action˝

Hm, I decide long time ago I don`t support any national team. After all this shits here, in ex-yu, all those killing and war in the name of the nation - thanx, but not for me....

Thanx for welcoming Smile))

Surprised to hear people were thinking about supporting Croatia, they have lots of previous. This includes as far as I can remember France 98 and Euro 96. Interesting to hear your angle diabolino.

I remember seeing a couple of their games at Euro 96 at the City Ground when they played Portugal and also a few days later when they lost at Old Trafford to West Germany in the QF's.
I know that a fair few of their fans have a certain reputation, but i remember their support at that time to have been something else and the most fervent i'd ever seen up to that time.

even in australia croatian and serbian fans hold a passionate dislike for each other.

the interesting thing is that often, their fathers have rejected their macho nationalism to migrate to australia, but their sons have picked the 'old nation's' patriotism up as a 'bit of fun' to display at football matches on the weekend.

yes, i have a lot of mates in croatia and most (having grown up with war) are fairly chilled out people who don't want trouble. these idots in oz have grown up in places like sydney, never had to live with the war and constantly glorify it at football matches before returning home to their safe suburban australian homes! complete pack of wasters.

i know some lads in the torcida and they are pretty much non-political, but it doesn't mean you don't get a number of right wing twats turn up to hajduk games. however, the main core of the group (that does a lot of the organising) are not right wing (some of them are personally anti-fascist, but the group stands as non-political).
like you said, the BBB tends to follow a more 80s english style and seem to take inspiration from a lot of the heavily right wing thug firms. hence, there is quite a nationalistic element to the BBB.
i also know a lad in the rijeka armada who is anti-fascist, but (like torcida) the group as a whole stands as non-political.
i'd have to totally disagree that all skins in croatia are nazis. i know a number of skins in croatia and i don't associate with nazis. the thing is, non-political and anti-racist skins aren't much of a news story - so of course the publicity all goes to the fuckwits. belive me though, diabolino, they are out there. i've played in streetpunk bands and have done some quite good shows in croatia. due to the genre of our music, we attract a lot of punks and skinheads. however, being that we're anti-fascist, only non-political or antifa skins tend to come to our shows (and if any nazis turn up they are not let in, as they know we're antifa and are only there to cause trouble).

Sadly these young "Croats" and "Serbs" made headlines on the first day of this years' Australian Open in Melbourne when they clashed outside the stadium, i didn't see it as i was in the stadium, but all these dickheads are only around 15 years old and haven't got a fucking clue about their past.

Just young knobheads out to be a pain in the arse, there was nearly trouble there in 2004 when the security guys stopped a couple of groups posturing with each other. also they're a pain in the arse whilst watching the tennis as well at most times, however the Serbs were more respectful whilst watching the Serb babe Jelena Jankovic rather than the Croats who were just dickheads watching Croatian beauty Ana Ivanovic.

If they want to know respectful fervent support they should have watched the Greek & Cypriot fans who barracked for Marcos Baghdatis in 2006, THAT was quality support(and intense passion)

Andy, Ana Ivanovic is Serb as well!

As for your comments about the greek cyps, fair enough - but what do you think the reaction would be if they were watching a Turkish player?

i hate nationalism in all it's forms - not like we can choose where we are born!
