Andy/Lee.

As agreed I thought it was time we started again. Very Happy

Being a Moderator, Andy, I imagine you can do this yourself!!

Tracey, i'm not so sure about Whitehawk as i haven't been there but i'm pretty sure that Lee has.

Funnily enough, that was on my short-list for Saturday, pending how far the ground is away from the station..

i hear it's 3 miles from the main station, near the marina.

Lee, can you shed any light - the club is called whitehawk, but the ground doesn't seem to be in the whitehawk area?

Tracey,
The ground is; The Enclosed Ground, East Brighton Park, Wilson Avenue, Brighton(Kemp Town)
listed on multimap as 2 miles from Brighton BR.

Looks likely that i won't be able to make it due to other circumstances, so more than likely i'll be watching Canterbury City play at Woodstock park instead..

Another away trip to see Canterbury City play meant a trip to the outer environs of Sittingbourne to Woodstock Park, signs weren't looking good as my train from Canterbury was 30 mins late, so i arrived in Sittingbourne 5 mins before ko.

So, straight into a taxi and i caught the start-swiftly i wish i hadn't as City went 1-0 down withina minute.

This wasn't in the script with City 10 points clear and still unbeaten, but Woodstock had only lost 1 game(to City) and were soon 2-0 up with it looking likely a nightmare afternoon for Canterbury with this being the halftime score.

Canterbury started the 2nd half better as Dan Bonneywell had a decent chance which was missed, before "Nipper" Gutsell had a cracking effort which hit the inside of the post, only to roll all the way along the line Crying or Very sad

Woodstock played some excellent stuff and thoroughly outplayed a shell-shocked City side as they ended up smashing that proud unbeaten record as they beat us 4-0..

Will be interesting to see the reaction from Dave Fairclough and the team next week..

@DaveHammer-Willo came on at ht but didn't make much if an impact

Well I liked Whitehawk!

This Saturday I am probably off to Bath for the Trophy match v Thurrock, I take it Mr Tranmere and Lee have been to Twerton Park?

Today's travels for me was a short trip after work to Bridge to see Canterbury City take on Tenterden Town.

A bitterly cold afternoon saw City 3-0 up after only 20 mins with goals from Wayne Fittall, Callum McGeehan and an og.

Tenterden then scored after an excellent build-up before Dan Bonneywell scored again for City for 4-1.

Just before ht City were denied a goal due to an outstanding reaction save below the bar for a straight red,so City 'keeper Danny Black was called up to despatch the spot-kick for a 5-1 ht lead.

Second half didn't live up to the highs as Wayne Fittall scored a 6th after some excellent work from the outstanding right back Sam Baker before Tenterden scored a deserved second.

FT 6-2 Canterbury City as they bounce back from last week's first loss

A very fitting place to be for me this afternoon as my Dad would have been 82 today and looking down very proudly on his team..

@ Aliceb: No - I haven't done Twerton Park yet. But that'll change soon enough no doubt.
I've been a bit busy of late and not had time to check the board, so apologies for not replying to various questions. I didn't find Whitehawk in the least bit scary when I went.
Anyway, time to catch up - I'll keep it brief. Since my last ramblings (literally and metaphorically) I've been to:
East Grinstead Town v Wealden 3-2 (Sussex Lge Div 2). I was well impressed with the ground and the set up. EGT have won every league game so far and look certain for promotion. Worth a visit.
Carlton Town v Sheffield 4-1 (Unibond Div 1 South). A fairly basic ground in Nottingham (no, not Meadow Lane Razz ) and a shocking performance from the world's oldest club.
Coventry City v West Bromwich Albion 0-4 (Championship). League football Shocked . Aaargh. Early red card, crap home team, very one-sided. Ground is ok but nothing to shout about. Plenty of mucking around with buses to get all the way out there.
Tamworth v Hyde United 3-2aet (Setanta Shield). The Lamb Ground is everything a non-league ground should be. Compact with a reasonable seated stand and some nice terracing. For a 'nothing' competition the game was very competitive. Another place worth visiting.
Rustington v Peacehaven & Telscombe 0-1 (Sussex Lge Div 2). Game was ok. Ground - yawn.
East Preston v Eastbourne United Association 1-0 (Sussex Lge Div 1). Game - yawn. Ground - ok.
Lingfield v Pease Pottage Village 8-0 (Sussex Lge Div 2). If you want goals take in a game with PPV - they are absolute shite. It was only ever a question of how many. Ground is fairly basic, but at least there was cover because it pissed down.
Wealden v Littlehampton Town 2-0 (Sussex Lge Div 2). Bizarre place this one. A football ground behind an Indian restaurant 1.5 miles outside Uckfield. The ground is decent, although there are no seats, and they had an open log fire going in the clubhouse (bottled Spitfire available Wink ).
Hereford United v Millwall 3-5aet (FA Youth Cup). Top ground - well what I could see of it through the fog anyway. Home side 3-0 with 8 minutes left. Oops. In the end they just ran out of steam, but a very entertaining game for £3.
That's all for now.

Last night I went to Burton Albion for their Brum Senior Cup game with Atherstone Town. Only around 200 at the game, but a noisy away contingent of about 30 who'd evidently spent a fair bit of time in the bar before the game.
It was a bit of a bonus seeing Nigel Clough turn out, and he'd definitely shine in the Midland Football Alliance. Albion won 5-0 but Atherstone did have a good go at them and hit the bar once - unlike their followers who hit the bar before the game, at half time and after the match Wink .
The Pirelli Stadium is everything Eton Park wasn't. For a new ground I was well impressed and it would be a welcome addition to the football league.

Tuesday night i saw an amazing game as Ramsgate reserves hosted Deal Town reserves in a game that had FIVE penalties(hmmm. maybe a record ??) with Deal scoring with all 3 of theirs whilst Ramsgate scored 1 and had the other one excellenty saved by the Deal 'keeper.
Deal won 3-2 with Former Ram John Utterson scoring 2 pens against his former Deal & Rams' team-mate Danny Twyman(fresh back from a 70 day ban in Sunday league footy)

Friday night was Canterbury City Under 18's v Long lane Under 18's in a John Ullman Cup tie at Canterbury High.
Atrocious conditions with driving rain throughout saw a suprisingly good game with Canterbury winning 3-1 Very Happy very difficult seeing from the distance in the dry with the Maroon shirts of City & Black&Blue stripes of Lane very difficult to pick out under the inadequate lights & rain.
If the visitors had been local, sure the game would have been played but the poor buggers came down from S E London and still lost...

Today, a different story as a lovely crisp sunny afternoon sent me off to Sittingbourne to see Canterbury City's game at UK Paper, however a waterlogged pitch(which looked fine to me when i got there 10 mins before ko : Evil or Very Mad )

So, i faced the prospect of no Saturday game since 14th July, but a call to my nephew at home then meant a trip across town to see Maidstone United (groundsharing) against Harlow Town, fortunately City's games start at 2pm in winter, so i had time to get to Central Park for 3pm.

Maidstone took a lead in injury time, when a silky run from Nick Hegley was finished with aplomb which was very much against the run of play.

Harlow got a deserved equaliser just after Maidstones' Murdoch Takologbighashi escaped scott-free after a disgraceful stamp on a Harlow players' side, but the visitors' good football wasn't rewarded with a win sadly as the game finished 1-1

A first ever trip to the Isle of Wight today to see the Southern Lge Div 1 South & West's bottom side, Newport (IW) FC take on Farnborough. A season high 241 saw buckets of rain and buckets of goals too. After 5 minutes the visitors were already 2 up, and the only surprise was that the other 5 came in the second half.
Newport have only survived relegation due to league restructuring in the last couple of years, but they're almost certain to be in the Wessex league next year.
The ground was much better than I expected, with a fairly decent main stand and 3 covered standing areas.

Tuesday night took me to the re-arranged Ramsgate v AFC Hornchurch Ryman Premier game, but due to a power failure, the match was abandoned after 31 mins at 1-1 !

Saturdays' match was decided for me by the weather as i decided not to risk a soaking watching Canterbury City in the open, so i heaede for the cover at Ramsgate as they took on Ashford Town from Middlesex.

A really awful afternoon was brightened by a decent game as Ashford went into an early lead with a classy goal before Stuart Vahid brought Rams level at HT.

Second half saw the game again flow well in difficult conditions which saw Stuart Vahid score a great second with a speculative cross/come shot .

Steffan Ball scored an excellent third which managed to keep the Rams in Third place in the Ryman Premier for match no 61 so far this season..
