Makes you realise how dominate adidas were at World Cups.
On this subject I read a really interesting book called Pitch Invasion: "Adidas", "Puma" and the Making of Modern Sport
Okay top five:
1. Peru 1978 (all time great kit, also liked the Argentina one, although not sure if I should due to the influence of the junta in proceedings)
2. France 1982 (great side, great kit)
3. Watford home 1982/83 (my first kit, fell in love with John Barnes, Cally & Luther)
4. Brazil 1982 (Zico, Socrates, Falcao etc)
5. St Pauli Away (2005/06) the brown one not the camo version, managed to get one off ebay - lovely & confuses the hell out of people! |

Top 5 that's tough.
As previously mentioned, Sampdoria get the nod and top marks for never seeming to mess around with a timeless classic. In fact, having just checked their website, they've got Kappa this season and what a beaut it is. If it's not one of those tight numbers, I might be tempted.
France's blue one from Espana 82. Good shout Nico.
How can we leave out the all brown St Pauli Kappa strip from (I think) 2000/2001? I've been trying to get one of those off eBay for ages.
Any Argentina strip.
Cardiff City's from the days of Robin Friday.
Peru ( ). River Plate and Boca Juniors.
Bolton's blue and white tablecloth check shirt by Matchwinner from 1991. _________________ Lost your love of life? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE! |

What are people's thoughts on the all brown by the way? As much as I love the Kappa shirt, I think the strip needs to be broken up with white shorts (this season's could do with this). After all, Hamburg ist Braun-weiss nicht nur Braun!
As for Watford Nico, you've had your fair share of goodies. My favourite is the Umbro one from 85 which I think had a red and black horizontal stripe across the chest. Lovely! _________________ Lost your love of life? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE! |

1. Manchester United 1981 home shirt – before my time (it’s the year I was born) but I now have this shirt in my possession (very proud). Plain red, no sponsor, a collar, white 3 stripes down the sleeves and the Adidas trefoil on the chest.
2. Germany 74 home shirt – a rare one for me as Im not too keen on kits without collars but this is an understated beauty.
3. France 98 home shirt – modern kits are generally rubbish but this had a collar, tipped its hat to former glories and, also key, was a bit of a one off for France (as opposed to World Cups now where Nike just peddle the same design for each team just with different colours). Picked this one up on the cheap with Zidane’s name on the back and the extra star for their win. Pleased to own it.
4. St Pauli 00/01 home shirt – I saw this in Karstadt Sport when I first went to Hamburg and was just in awe of it. Plenty of brown and white (Im not keen on when St Pauli have home shirts that are too totenkopfy and black), the Kappa logo all down the sleeves and it just generally looks like a faded in the wash Juve shirt. Wonderful! And it has a collar!
5. Paris St Germain 07/08 away shirt – a very controversial choice. It has no collar, its made by Nike (always risky) and I don’t like PSG, but nothing can get in the way of the fact that they have a brown away shirt with little Eiffel towers on it in some kind of so bad its good Luis Vuitton tribute. If I was Parisian and wasn’t on a boycott of all of Manchester United’s main sponsors (Nike), then I wouldn’t riot against Sarkozy in anything else.

Heathens have none of you seen the Carlisle Utd Deckchair strip from the mid/late 90's. The new home strip looks good too. _________________ Ae we taking over or are we taking orders!!! |

Now that is truly something... By Nike standards it is close to genius. I have just sold my soul to these evil earth-raping child-labouring education-sucking pseudo-rebellious guerilla-marketing capitalist scumbags. Well, ok, I shelled out £20 to a bloke in Bolton anyway. My first bling...aw.
Which prompts two questions: 1) Which will be (should be?) the first UK team to succumb to the now-ironic-again Burberry check? and 2) Actually I'll risk another thread to ask what people think about PSG. _________________ Lover, Poet, Philosopher, Drunk and Bore...All in five easy pint shaped pieces. |

@Kowalski, that Brown Kappa home stretchy top adorns my torso most Saturdays and was one of the first St Pauli shirts i brought.
Also love the first St Pauli top i brought in 2002 at the kabin, the Kappa "securvita" Black with white/silver bits on, just class
As were the classic two diagonal Mobilcom home and away strips.
BTW, i've got around 15 St Pauli tops in my collection dating back to 2002 and i think(??) i have them all since, still awaiting the current home and away tops to hit my floor !
Anyone who knows a link referring to the St Pauli kits i'd be grateful !!
Other favourites are;
the Classic Tranmere Claret & Blue ensemble that we beat Bolton(sorry Kowalski) in back in 1991 !!
Best ever from my youth was the classic West Ham away worn by Clyde Best, Ade Coker & Harry Redknapp, the Sky Blue with two claret bands, a classic in it's time ..
Shimuzu S-Pulse shirt from Japan with the world globe shading in the background(check out Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |
Palermo kits are always legendary, especially the predominantly black with pink from two years ago.
remember Jimmy Hill modelling the Carlisle deckchair kit in 442 years ago, another shocker was a Brighton Red swirling kit that had NOBO as sponsor-quite an irony
Peru in 1970 WC was the first kit i really remember with misty-eyed affection, ahhh ..good old Roberto Chumpitaz... _________________ He didn't go round nowhere, i just sent him round ! |
