Anyhoo, I originally got the St Pauli bug after a trip to Hamburg a few years back, but I'll admit I kind of drifted away again. Partly because it was so bloody hard to get any news during the Reginonalia seasons, but also because I was getting p!ssed off with some of my fellow Celts paying lipservice to the St Pauli thing. You know the kind I mean, the guys who seem to think St Pauli are little more than a Hamburg branch of the Celtic Supporters Club.

Funny that you say that, have had that feeling the last few times I met celtic supporters in Hamburg...
good to see you here

Gulp, I'm always paranoid I come across that way in Hamburg, never mean to and although I usually wear Celtic tops to St Pauli games. Usually there is a good deal of interest though in Celtic from people that i've met in bars, I hope that I don't ramble on too much. (and I know the obvious if you don't want to come across that way don't wear Celtic tops - I usually wear them to swap with St Pauli fans)

No worries, it's not about the celtic top. Smile I wear St. Pauli tops when I go elsewhere most of the time! What I had in mind when I wrote that was for example a incident in the Jolly Roger, where some pissed Celtic supporters demanded that the DJ should play "decent Rebel-Songs". When the guy refused ('cause his thing was Ska and Rocksteady) they started being real dickheads and finally announced that St. Pauli didn't "deserve" Celtic, that the Jolly is "shit" and just continued to annoy everyone by singing and trying to stop the music that was played until they were removed which almost resulted in a fight. They were hammered and even though I have a story or two more, I wouldn't generalize it or think that's the norm, but I have been left with the feeling that some Celtic supporters are under the impression that we are little more than a "Celtic fanclub" and coming over is still first an foremost a "Celtic" thing and not about St. Pauli at all.
ok, nuff rambled and hey I don't mean to offend... just my experience...

Love Bristol Rovers and St Pauli.

As for Celtic - I like to stay well clear as I cant be doing with all the baggage that surrounds the Celtic/Rangers rivalry.

Well at least I know that wasn't me!

It seems that a good few Celtic fans who are passonate about St Pauli are wary about the amount & type of people that are travelling over to Hamburg now and its sad, this is also reflected in concerns about people who travel to watch Celtic away in Europe.

I remember one great night in the Jolly Roger, before Kick off the place wasn't too busy and we gave in a CD to see if the staff would play it, they were only to happy to oblige, a bit of The Pogues, Drop Kick Murphy's etc. After a few songs the bar man took the CD off, smiled and said I think you'll like this better - on came a load of rebel songs. Unfortunatley I can't see that happening now - maybe I'm wrong. In truth now I rarely go into the Jolly Roger and am happier in the Fanladden or behind the Nordtribune, and hoops always seem to be very welcome still.

The majority of Celtic fans who travel to watch St Pauli seem to leave a good impression and I'm proud that there is a link between the fans. Don't worry about the baggage of the rivalary, with Rangers, many Celts who are over there are there because of a belief that racism and fascism are wrong and thats why they want to be associated with St Pauli.

met lots of St Pauli bhoys when I went to watch Celtic play Dortmund in 86 I think. Had agreat time with them and couldnt beleive thier knowledge of the hoops and Ive followed them since. Can only afford to go over to St pauli once a year due to my Celtic and FC United commitments. Dream come true for me would be an FC United StPauli friendly a Gigg Lane, yi never know it could happen, cluching at staws here but does anyone know if there is anywhere you can watch St Pauli games in Manchester area. Twisted Evil HAIL HAIL and LET THE PEOPLE SING.

Celtic fan all my life, but have been following the fortunes of St Pauli for a few years now and plan to come over as often as I can, now that I can get flights direct from Luton!! Helps that my missus has friends in Langenhorn, so I don't need to find digs either! Wink
Was in Hamburg in June and took a trip to the club shop at the Millerntor, can't wait to see the place when it's finished!
