Just looking at the table and it looks bloody terrifying with us, Smogs and Slumberland all within touching distance just days before the big game between us and the smogs on Sunday.
I have got to say I am worried. I live just near Middlesbrough and i cant afford anything other than to see them get a total pasting off us on Sunday. A smog victory is unthinkable, but with the unsettled/settling in period at the club at present, it might not be that easy to avoid because i have got to admit, the smogs are starting to improve.
Anyone gannin for a beverage before the game? _________________ Deep in my heart, I do believe, we shall overcome some day.

Yeah.. I know what you mean, I used to work for Teesside Polytechnic (can't get used to the idea of it as a university - elitist bastard that I am ) and dreaded derby days. I now work in Albania on Wear and that's even worse. The natives are obsessed with our team and rarely mention their own when talking to me, too busy telling me how crap we are (they may have a point but I resent the pondlife telling me). Unfortunately, being the 'big club' out of the three we've got nothing to gain but everything to lose....
I'll be there on Sunday. Unfortunately ko time means boozing is 'limited'. I'll post here if I am. anufc usually pops along for a pint. I'm in the East Stand (The Library) BTW. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

The way Newcastle are going I wouldn't be surprise to see them go down this season. I think Gazza could do a better job that what Keegan is doing. _________________

Well Newcastle did win a trophy yesterday.
Mind you it was Newcastle Jets from NSW who won the Australian A League final. _________________ He didn't go round nowhere, i just sent him round ! |

Point 1) Neither would I.
Point 2) Ill-informed, media influenced bollocks. Been reading The Sun again? _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

I agree we are in perilous danger of going down.
But even if we do, Newcastle United are obviously a massive club, something Middlesbrough will never be. They cant even fill the ground out on that hellhole of a no-mans land right next to a chemical factory. What a pigsty. What a joke club, they are just there to make up the numbers in the premiership. But Newcastle might be rubbish at the moment but we at least have a realistic chance of winning it in the next few years.
By the way, i was born and bred in Middlesbrough and now live close by, so i should know.

Newcastle are a massive club with a very small trophy cabinet.
I think Bobby Robson was in short trousers the last time they won a domestic trophy. _________________

Point taken. Boro HAVE won a domestic trophy in recent years (BTW well done to the Spurs for yesterday, it sticks in my throat but it was brilliant to see Drogba spitting his dummy out ) and there is no doubt that on current form they are the best team in the NE - mind that's not saying much. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

Big lanky geordie, we have never pretended to be a big club....i.e. 'just a small town in Europe' chants during our 2 UEFA cup campaigns.
You get 52,000 every week (25,000 fans and 30,000 customers) you are a much bigger city with a huge catchment area. Why are you not more successful - all Newcastle bang on about is attendences..blah blah blah. Having a go at Middlesbrough is such an easy thing to do , true it is far from a beautiful place - just go a few miles to the south and you have some of the nicent scenery anywhere in England.
Why do we relatively outperform you - may be it is a lower expectation from the fans, an excellent youth policy and stability at the club from the very top. Oh and we don't have Freddie Shepherd - and you call us a 'Joke club' _________________ You should have let it lie Vic, but you wouldn't would you! |

Neither do we.
I used to work and live in the Boro many moons ago. Oxford Road? Know it? I agree with you about most things you say however the reason I think of NUFC as a 'BIG' club is not so much the attendance and strong regional identity but because of the media coverage afforded us. Someone farts at SJP and the press vomit miles of column inches and Sky Sports News start talking to any slopey headed charver that they can find in the vicinity. If we weren't a big club why the fuck would they bother?
Had some good times in the town.... don't know your vintage but the Rock Garden/Marimba ring any bells? Used to drink in the Empire on Linthorpe Road. Played footy for South Bank in the Northern League (briefly), Dorman Long Social Club and Teesside Poly student's team as a ringer( I worked there). _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

I am glad to be shot of living in Boro TBH, Hamburg is a great place....but having said that I have Boro in my heart and being the perennial over achieving underdog in the NE, I feel it necessary to defend our much maligned club.
We like to think of ourselves as a Blackburn, West Ham or Portsmouth, you boys tend to look and compare higher and................... I'll leave the rest to the league tables and cup competitions over the past 4-5 seasons.
But you get 50 odd thousand so that's all that matters I guess....fair play. _________________ You should have let it lie Vic, but you wouldn't would you! |

Hi mate.
I live in Newcastle but teach in sunderland. I think you've got a good deal swapping it for Hamburg! There isn't a gnat's widger between the 3 NE clubs at the moment. First time it's been like that for a while! Looks like 2 draws on the 20th and 26th I would guess.
We'll see.
BTW welcome to the board. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

Thanks it's nice to be here. Do you manage to go to any Newcastle games? Living in Hamburg I haven't been to a Sunderland game in 3 years. I have to say It's one of the things I really miss about England. That and my mates! Boo hoo! Apart from that I couldn't be happier in Hamburg. As much as possible I try and watch as many games as possible online but my eyes hurt from watching online in that tiny little screen!
As for the Newcastle Sunderland game I am just hoping we're both well safe by then (which I'm sure we will be) then it's all about who finishes above who and that's just amazing.
