Oh yes - four of us Brummies are going, but we're getting the chartered train from Hamburg early Sunday morning. Fancy meeting up whilst we're over there?

@Kingswood Pirate
Make sure you have tickets for the game beforehand, as they will be very difficult to come by. It's the first time I've struggled to get a ticket for St Pauli.

Yeah - Heiko's sorted us out. Match and train ticket in one. Apparently this hired train is quite a rarity. Looking forward to it immensely, especially as it promises bars, a poker room and a ... "dancing compartment."

What's not to like?

We're probably staying in Mainz after the game, so let us know if you fancy a few tots before hand.

Went on last year's fan train to Magdeburg (got one of the window posters up in my office) with John and a few others from the board. It's great fun. However, please note:
The beer ran out early and we had to take on extra supplies at Hannover and that sold out double quick, so take plenty of your own. The 'dancing compartment' looked mental but was too packed to even squeeze into - as were the bogs. Hold it in or queue for fuckin' ages. Shocked
Enjoy it, it's an experience and nothing like the 'supporter's specials' of the 70s in this country - for those of you old enough to remember them! Embarassed

Oh I do remember the football specials, young Mr Les. One of my first away experiences was on a special with the old man in 1979. Put me off the "glamour" of hooliganism for life.

Looking forward to this immensely. Sounds the right side of demented!

I guess this will be Heiko's "last hurrah" so to speak, and I suspect one good reason for knocking it all on the head.

Can you imagine the stress of trying to organise a "special"? Fans, Fan-clubs, Police, Railway authorities, tickets, blah blah blah. It was a chore when I was organising travel out of London for Pompey fans - and there were only about 20 of us!!!! Embarassed

I'm sure that there were upwards of 700-800 on the train to Magdeburg. Sod that for a game of soldiers!!!!!!

Have a great day out, Chris, wish him well and..................be gentle with him.

John x

Ahh yes Les, i remember the Magdeburg trip well.
Due to the sonderzug being sold out, i took the rather scary walk from the HBF to the stadium-quite an experience- but i saw Heiko when i was with you & John and he managed to get me on it on the journey back.

I remember the huge roar as they announced the hannover stop, Lee went to get beer and they'd sold out in about 10 mins !

However, my abiding memory will be the wall of noise as we all got off at Hamburg HBF after that momentous day-superb...

I remember the old soccer specials well, one memorable trip back in 1983 coming back from Glasgow with the Gooners as at some stupid-o-clock hour of the night we had gone the wrong way down the tracks and had to reverse back for a mile or so !

Certainly am mate. And the bloke you mention is an enormous (ie obese) Baggies fan called Mat - he mentioned that he'd met some Rovers / St Pauli fans ages ago!

I'll pm you my phone number mate so we can arrange to meet after the game. We'll be taking our BBIB flag - not sure whether we'll be able to hang it anywhere, but if we can, we could try and meet during the match

This is going to be a belter - looking forward to it, especially as we're about to get relegated!
