Quality that one. Should get a few of those t-shirts printed. |
Genius. I wish I'd thought of it. Sanktic - you're the king of the T-shirts. Fancy getting one of these done and sending it to Artur Boruc. I'd love to see the press reaction when he unveils it at the end of the next Celtic-Huns game. It might finally get them to acknowledge the original banner (and now T-shirt and chant by the looks of the picture) on which I have so far seen no coverage at all. You might want to change the word Hun to Thug, though, as I'm told the 'H'-word is offensive and sectarian and upsets the poor little mites. |

obviously i wasn't there and am no defender of Rangers BUT aren't you just high lighting minority who have misbeaved on Weds and given a bad name to all the rest?
with a support so big, of course there will be some dick heads, and some nice ones to!
if Cardiff or Pompey fans were to riot tomorrow, we wouldn't blame ALL Cardiff or Pompey fans would we?
all teams have there bad element of supporters and perhaps 1 or 2 like Rangers have a higher proportion than some other teams, but it doesn't mean that all or even a majority of them are like that, does it?
i suspect a big team like rangers attract a large number who support them for glory hunting or family reasons, and not for political ones.
after all, they interviewed lots of kids and women rangers fans on TV/radio, your not telling me all off them are/will grow up to be fascists!
they also interviewed some mancunians who said the majority of Rangers fans were OK and were very embarrassed and apologised for the actions of the others who rioted, some even tryed to stop there fellow fans from doing so, i believe. |

Sorry Alice. You're right. It was only a minority that rioted. But, what percentage of them were singing sectarian songs like the Billy Boys (as mentioned earlier on this thread) or their new favourite about ancestors of the Irish Famine victims going "home" (there was a thread about this one a few weeks ago)? Not necessarily in the ground of course as they've already been fined by UEFA. But of course they can't fine them for singing it around the city before the game.
What percentage of them were doing the "Bouncy Bouncy" (origins discussed above) at Eastlands the other night? What about the " Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | " in Israel last season? And why didn't this "decent majority" politely point out to those naughty, misguided boys that unveiled the offensive banner against Nakamura in Lisbon the error of their ways and ask them to take it down? |

Does have a very strong point here. Post match I think it was on the BBC website the fans were being praised for "rocking the stadium" with their "bouncy bouncy" song so I am guessing that was not just a minority. I think most right minded people would be absolutely disgusted if they knew the meaning behind the song. Now I quite agree that a large number of their fans may well be decent people but come on; ask most fans and they know what the fans songs are about and that is hardly "You'll never walk alone" If those decent fans in the Rangers crowd dont have serious problems with what would be hundreds if not more jumping up and down like that then they need to ask themselves a few questions.
People are all too quick to excuse this kind of behaviour as some kind of tiny minority I remember not so long ago a certain team complaining about how they were being accused of racist chanting from their fans "Its only about 5% of the crowd" Was the repy. Well if you were standing in that crowd and a couple of hundred people were making racist chants how comfy would you feel?
As the above poster has pointed out; why havent Rangers fans stood up against the red hand salutes at games, the racist banner against a Celtic player? Looking on the sky website today all the posts just seemed to point out Celtics sectarian problems. Its a bit like saying "Well my gardens a mess but so is his"
I would like nothing more than the decent majority to stand up against these people. I read today that that police officer who was kicked around by Rangers fans was actually saved by another Rangers fan who dragged him away. |

re the bouncy bouncy..i'm informed that it was being done a while before the murder but was then seized upon as a taunt to catholics in Northern Ireland in reference to what was done to the poor lad..and inevitably the taunt aspect of it spread back to mordor...there will be rangers fans who have no idea about this but there will be an awful lot who know exactly what they're doing |

re chanting
what about the vast numbers of Liverpool fans who sing Munich songs, or Man U fans singing about Heysal/Hillsborough?
but i do take your point, i guess.
i'm not catholic and can't imagine what it feels like to be targeted just for being one. |

i guess iomographer was being witty, however:
proof? why not ask the middle aged celtic fan (minding his own business in a central belfast street after the second last old firm game) who had his throat slit by rangers / linfield "fans" shouting combat 18 slogans?
i'm sure they would have jumped up & down on his head if some brave comrades hadn't chased them off (NO arrests, funnily enough)!
this was an organised attack by up to 2 dozen fascists replete in black combats & baseball caps, who attacked several celtic supporting bars before attempting to murder the unlucky supporter who, luckily, survived!
the irish press reported this as some "football related TROUBLE....."
bless!

They are both very offensive chants for Liverpool and Man United fans but I think there is a world of difference with chants about Munich/Hillsbrough (as sick as that is) and racist/sectarian chants.
Regarding Heysal I belive England fans some years ago (Most of whom were not even from Liverpool) were caught chanting "Heysal, Heysal" During the world cup in Italy. |

also....
to further stir up the festering cess pool that is scottish football:
it IS worth remembering that cellic took 80,000 supporters to sevilla where we all got tanked up on cheap estrella and duc d'alba brandy then got robbed in the final by mourinho's dirty diving sardine munching cheating basturrrdz and then went in to town to carry on partying resulting in exactly....
NO ARRESTS
according to the custodians of spanish justice!
i submit there might be an underlying reason for this, worth investigating!
though, i do recall the jungle singing : FVCK THE POPE AND FVCK THE QUEEN - WE GOT MOUNTBATTEN & 18...... aah, foolish foolish youth!

2/ calling FC PORTO "sardine munchers" (you KNOW it's truie!)
3/ the mountbatten song
or do you mean all of the above?

That is correct. They copied Greenock Morton who began doing it in the late 70's. |

Don't misunderstand me Dimitri. I 100% support your defense of Irish/Catholic people against these barbaric acts of violence and sectarian abuse. You obviously know more on the subject than me and frankly it beggers belief that this not only continues but is dismissed and swept under the carpet as "Sectarianism" (As though its just a case of a bit of banter amongst rival fans) I was mealy pointing out (Or rather hoping) that like Chelsea a few years back there are a large number of sane minded fans amongst Rangers who are equally sickened by these chants, comments and actions by their fellow so called 'supporters'
Reading these comments I really cannot understand why this has not been addressed in the exact same way that racism has been addressed in the premier league. while I know full well that money is the main motivation behind the campaign against racism (and therefore why racist chanting from Spanish teams, Spanish coaches, Italian clubs etc is swept under the carpet) Still you have to question why this hasn't been seriously addressed in both Scotland and N Ireland.
Some on the board have pointed out Liverpool and Everton but in no way can the 2 clubs be compared to Rangers - Celtic. While some may well have met Liverpool fans with Rangers leanings I have equally met Liverpool fans with Celtic leanings and Everton fans equally split Rangers/Celtic. while there may be large portions of fans in some areas who support one club or the other the divide or support probably has more to do with Irish or Scottish players at the clubs at certain periods in their history than sectarianism. (bit like now you may see Spanish banners at Anfield but hardly means the club has become Spanish) |
