I was surfing the web and came across this site with the coolest football related song ever IMO.
[url]http://www.talfanzine.com/fcstpauli.htm
Translation:
The heart from St Pauli
That is where I am at home
In Hamburg, there I am at home
The harbour, the lights
The ship leaving in the distance
The heart from St. Pauli
that calls me back
For there by the Elbe
There I take my chance
The heart from St Pauli
That is where I am at home
In Hamburg, there I am at home
The Elbe, the Michel, the going is always good
S. Pauli, the freedom
that is in our blood
And if the ship is sinking
In Hamburg, we will stay on board
In Hamburg, there we will stay on board
The heart from St Pauli
That is where I am at home
In Hamburg, there I am at home
The harbour, the lights
The ship leaving in the distance
The heart from St. Pauli
that calls you back
In the village by the Elbe
There you take your chance
The heart from St Pauli
That is where I am at home
In Hamburg, there I am at home
The heart from St Pauli
That is where I am at home
In Hamburg, there I am at home
The harbour, the lights
The ship leaving in the distance
The heart from St Pauli
That is our home,
In Hamburg, there we are at home
The harbour, the lights
The ship leaving in the distance, leaving
I have also surfed looking for the thrash metal verson of YNWA as mentioned in the "Rough guide to European football" but been unable to find. Has anyone got any more details on this. Do any fans know of a cd with the songs on. I can speak German so can try and help with translations etc. |

I think you will mean the version of "Rubbermaids and Gegengerade Allstars". This version of "You will never walk alone" is a a punk and a bit rock....
The CD "Auf ein Lied FC" is from 1996, done by Weser Label in Bremen with 5 songs on it. |

The song "Herz von St. Pauli" is on another CD of Uebersteiger Fanzine.
The sampler "Der FC ist schuld das ich so bin" is made of 30 songs, fan chants and 2 versions of Herz von St. Pauli. One punk rock version of Phantastix and one original by Hans Albers. |

Firstly thanks to all those who replied. Does anyone know if this song (Herz von St. Pauli) is played at the Millerntor? It is the sort of tune that would really get the crowd rocking IMHO (take note Keith Fane) I have heard what I assume to be the original on another site but it is a bit music hall for my liking. Sorry about not getting the link right first time but I am a newbie. |

It's played just before the start of every game, well all the ones I've been at anyway. |

The punky version by Phantastix has been played before the game for a couple of years now, taking over the spot that was formerly taken by the Rubbermaids' version of You'll Never Walk Alone.
Not everyone is completely happy with it - not because they don't like the song but because it is not the most chantable pieces of music _________________

Perhaps not for chanting but it's bloody good to sing along to in the car. Plus it helps improve my terrible grasp of German a little. _________________ '....and if you get kicked out of that school you're going straight to the Army where you'll be sent to America's latest military quagmire. BTW the description thrash metal was the words of the author of the St Pauli piece in "The Rough guide to European football" not mine. |

The original version by Hans Albers is _not_ on the sampler, at least not on the CD version, don't know about the vinyl. There's the punk rock version by Phantastix & Elf and a more experimental one by Franky B. (?).

But I actually like the Hans Albers version a lot. |

One other thing I want to query is that "Ride Of The Valkyries" used to be played at the Millerntor after a goal. Given the St. Pauli support I would have thought this would not have gone down very well to say the least! |
