Does anyone have any news/results re: Anti- Racist World Cup held in Belfast last week?

Don't know the Belfast event, but the Mondiali Antirazzisti / Bologna used to be the real deal. It has become too big in the last couple of years though....
And as always... if you really would have to choose, the only choice is St. Pauli

We were over with 5 supporters from St.Pauli/St.Pauli CSC. we joined the folks from Düsseldorf to form what the organisers named "Team Germany" Brilliant time, though the tournament itself is much smaller than the one of the Fanladen or Mondiali Antirazzisti. Thanks for the link. On basically the same subject-any news on the FIFI Wild Cup? Searches on the internet leave a lot to be desired(maybe I ask too much?).

It's great to see the number of such events, and the size of them, proliferating year on year. My Sunday team in Leeds (men's and women's teams) have been attending the Mondiali in Italy and the AntiRa in Hamburg for several years now.

In fact we 'won' the Mondiali Anti Razzisti 2 years ago but that's an award that had nothing to do with trivial mater of on-the-pitch football performance, just with off the field things (both at the tournament itself and the stuff we do in Leeds)

As holders of that we got invited to one that happens every September in Dublin too.

Tricky issue. The Mondiali had big problems this year with serious crimes allegedly comitted by outsiders. But, if those kinds of issues can be dealt with, and I'm sure they can, wouldn't you want it as big as possible, to spread the word and not be an exclusive club ?

There were ALWAYS those who didn't get the vibe though, right from the start, and this year, for example the United (IMUSA) lads singing vile insults about Scousers (in a totally serious, venemous way) over and over in the cafeteria were an utter disgrace. Surely the Mondiali is against all hatred and that team's organisers should make that clear to all participants in advance ?

I think Heiko, the Fanladen, etc., took their cue from the Mondiali and made their own event much more of a NETWORKING event , but even they would have to admit that as an inspirational/educational event, with all its funding, big bands on site, etc, the Mondiali is the first and foremost of its kind. If I wanted to bring a bunch of young people from Leeds or wherever to something that would educate them and inspire them, it would be the Mondiali. And that has always been part of its purpose.

Not that they're in any way in competition. They are in fact utterly complementary.

Anyway, the St. Pauli AntiRa is now going to be in Hamburg every 2 years at most, hopefully rotating around. It might be in Leipzig next year !

it was more of a joke to write that the St. Pauli antira tournament should be the one you choose (that's why I put the smiley in). of course there is no competition between the events wouldn't make sense either.
in regards to the Mondiali, I have been there years ago and came back in 2006 with some friends of mine (being in europe anyways) and the atmosphere was quite different. a least in my humble opinion. some teams I found rather unpleasant - let's say they were very focused on the football side of the event and when drunk pretty annoying. A female teammate for example confronted a group singing sexist chants and after she was told to fuck off and some of us got involve, we were invited to discuss that "outside the tent like real men". alpha-male wannabe redneckish shit that I haven't encountered before and in a setting that's supposed to be about progressive politics... sure that's one incident and it was discussed later, for me it just showed what kind of people frequent the event nowadays. that's what I meant by saying it became too big. I still think the Mondiali is a great opportunity to get to know other people and make useful connections and share experiences. but that part is not as dominant as it was before.

Firstly get your facts right - it WASNT an IMUSA team and have nothing to do with IMUSA apart from the fact that two of us are members and were involved in the past. And we werent all United, it was also Blackburn Rovers Against Racism who some of the group travelled over with together. Two teams who generally hate each in the stadium other working together to come to the tournament. Thats not getting the vibe eh? Before criticising people at least do your research as to who they actually are.

Secondly vile insults about scousers in a totally serious venemous way? It was a bunch of lads on the piss singing nonsense songs. Fuck me if you think that was serious and venemous god help you in a school playground. Yeah there was a bit of scouse baiting and IF there were Shields songs for example that was out of order but to say we were an utter disgrace is a joke. Not being in the spirit of the tournament? We were drinking with Roma Ultras who a couple of months earlier had chased us with fucking knives, we were laughing and sharing stories about our trips to Rome and their trips to Manchester. Against the spirit of the tournament? We were joining in chatting and singing with teams from all over, learning songs in Italian and German so we could join in, brought posters for the Piazza Antirazzisti, went to some of the film screenings, had a great time in the matches and at the tournament in general as we have done for a number of years. But forget all that because we sang a couple of anti-Liverpool songs in a beer tent. Thats how it works is it?

Thirdly, if you were that bothered why didn't you come and have a word? What did you think if you identified yourself as a scouser you actually would "hang from the highest fucking tree?" Surely you can distinguish between terrace songs and real life. We certainly can - we were singing songs about "yorkshire bastards" in the company of people from Barnsley and Bradford and "hating the cockneys of course" after chatting to, you guessed it, cockneys. They sang back at us and took it in the daft banter type atmosphere in which it was intended. You are more than welcome to come sing one of your team's many anti-Manc songs at us and we'll take it in a light hearted spirit.

If you're that into progressive politics as you say, surely you're into speaking out against what you believe isn't right, working cooperatively discussing problems and confronting behaviour you believe to be unacceptable. Or maybe its just that is really wasn't that unacceptable and you're being over the top. Skriking on an internet messageboard months after the event certainly isnt progressive.

I don't want to wade in here, not knowing the background... but if you are attending an antifa tournament I'd consider it incredibly bad taste to sing negative songs about your rivals whether they be 'Scousers', 'Mancs', 'Cockneys' etc... Surely the whole point is about coming together and showing respect.

It ain't what I'm about. It ain't what St Pauli is about (IMHO).

Guess I wouldn't last five minutes in the playgroud, eh?

i ve read about that in a French newspapers , was this the same tournament where there had been a rumour of a rape too? Cause there was a tournament alike where there had been a false rumour of such a disgrace...

If so, great set of people - and say Hi to Ricky from me! Met him and some of the team at Collumpton in 2007.

Sorry for the late reply - YES MATE - I even played with your St. pauli supporters' team at that tournament a couple of times and I was the 'arsey' one in Republica's memorable stage show *! Will say HI to Ricky for you !
