Just had a look - no thread about them yet. But a match of the second team is always worth a visit. This season they play in a league with teams from Hamburg or the suburbs only, so there's a close-by match every week and some of the grounds are really lovely.
Though the league is some fun, it's important to be promoted after this year as the gap to the first team is too big right now.

Here's the season schedule and the results so far:
Code:

Can I endorse what astro says? I really enjoyed the game I watched. Admittedly it was a sunny afternoon at a picturesque ground, the company was good and we won 7-1.... Wink

Give it a go next time you're over. It adds a lot to the weekend.

The 5:0 in Norderstedt was truly impressive, especially as Norderstedt was considered as one of the main competitors at the start of the season.

Today was another really interesting match, with Fabio Morena strengthening our defense. Sadly, Ömer Sismanoglu was sent off after just 5 minutes, but we remained the better team anyway. The second half saw two players of Lurup leaving the ground because of repeated fouls and we got loads of chances to score - but didn't use any. It was really as if there would be a secret and invisible force in front of Lurup's goal.

no, it's central Hamburg. The ground "Stadion Hoheluft" is quite a historic one. You can find some pictures here:

The closest train station is Farmsen. With U1 (blue line) less than 20 minutes from central train station. From Farmsen, there is a bus going straight to the ground, might be roughly another 10 minutes.

anyway, if I am in Hamburg that weekend I'll go there as well so you could join or just go with the other 200-300 that I'd expect if the weather is alright.

I'd echo what Les says, it's good to watch the amateure and a good chance to get in a new ground or so.

But, unlike Les, i saw the U23's at home to Altona and Union's ground is superb but the weather was awful.

Astro's right, there are some crackers in this league, i'd recommend trips to SC Victoria, SC Concordia, VFL 93, BU, all excellent grounds and close to the U/S bahn(Cordi's the furthest away from a station), SC Condor's ok with a large athletics track around, but worth a visit, USC Paloma's a clay pitch.

I've seen the amateure away a couple of times and have seen them win, whilst in around 15 first team games, never seen them lose at home or win away !

Hopefully(!) this will change in Augsburg next month....

Good thread this Very Happy

Ta for the tips and travel info Astro et all.

Just one more question! Do the 2nd team/U23 play their home games at the Millerntor?? Confused

Its just that its dead common in the UK for the reserves/youth sides to be packed off onto some barren wasteland!

Ta.

neither. they don't play at the Millerntor (except for special occasions), but they're not sent to a wasteland. As Les mentioned, it's a quite lovely ground in the district (and former city) of Altona, just a couple of minutes from St.Pauli.

Diebsteich is the nearest S bahn stop, then it's just over 5 mins walk to the ground.

If you're looking at a home game, Concordia would be a good bet as they have a fairly decent away following, however i'm sure you'lll enjoy your visit whoever the visitors are.

a nice 4:1 against Paloma at home in bright sunshine. Goals: Kiekbusch, Zekiri, Laban, Daube if I remember correctly. In his first match after his injury Biermann played the first half. Paloma's keeper is ex-St.Pauli player Frank Dröge. about 340 attendance.
