I appear to have found myself in Hamburg at the last minute with tickets to the Munchen game tomorrow. My dear old dad is coming with me to see what all the fuss is about. Is anyone meeting up before the game? We'll be getting along at about 5. I know this is short notice, so sorry about that.
I shall probably only get to check this once at about 3pm tomorrow, so let me know. If not, I'll be the portly fella in the new Pauli away top with a greying ponytail.*
*Sounds worse than it is.
(Apologies for the crosspost, I'm just aware this is slightly last minute) _________________ We managed to score against Trinidad and Tobago. One better than Sweden. |

FT 1-0 Trojan
Missed all but last 5 minutes as was on bath duty.
Good result though. We are to different teams - home & away. The Millerntor must play as massive part in this? |

Goal was after 23 minutes and was a result of a long ball into the heart of the 1860 defence being bolluxed by their centre backs and keeper. Trojan was alert and nipped in to side foot into an empty net. Quick thinking and quick feet! We dominated the first half in midfield and should have sewn it up. 1860 were woeful, toothless in attack and confused at the back. They bunched around the ball like school kids. Hain had a VERY quiet game. If I was from Munich I would be worried about this season.
USP were feckin' awesome and made a huge noise throughout.
Schnitzler and Henning were disappointing, the former guilty of a bad miss when he chased after a bad back pass and hit the keeper when the obvious ploy was to lift it over him. Easy for me to say but he went down faster than a girl on the Reeperbahn in a puffer jacket....
Three welcome points.
BTW the sunset looked awesome. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

I insist that the Gegengerade had a good night as well, starting quite a few chants that USP joined.
Really good atmosphere.

Schnitzler wasn't disappointing at all, at least from what I could see. Yes, that miss was truly bad but otherwise he was very active, moving a lot and even helping out in the defense. I hope that he'll improve his efficiency, but we don't have any better players in the offense.
Best man on the ground was definitely Boll. What a performance! He surprises me again and again. Hoilett must be mentioned as well - sad that he is on loan only, but I guess we could not pay him anyway. I cannot remember seeing a faster player and the way he handles the ball is just beautiful. _________________ Irish Folk&Rebel from St.Pauli:

not just that, no one was sent off as well ;)

Great performance, particularly the first half. Just one way traffic! Once Trojan went off, which is a huge blow if hes injured, Sechzig gained far more possession but as Les pointed out they did nothing with it. The new lad from Blackburn also looked decent. Very quick.
I had a great time, my clothes stink of beer (from when the goal went in), but I cant wipe the smile off my face! _________________ Geschunden durch den (Hamburg) Sport Verein....Samstag ist Selbsmord |

With regard to 'Superman', It's hard to see his work rate as the camera just follows the ball, so sorry about that harsh judgement. Boll looked good, probably my MoM too. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

Schnitzel reminds me a lot of Air Luz, lots of hustle and bustle and good work, only to fail in putting the ball in the net. He had about three gifted oportunities and did not hit any of them well.
Rothenbach seemed to have a good game in the back - not much going forward - but he did keep Bierofka's forays to a minimum.
I cannot believe how bad 1860 München played. They used to be a good team and in this match found it tough to make anything happen. Their defense was a shambles and their offense was all about individual efforts.
Trojan was our difference maker though, not only for the goal but for consistently getting into good positions and making things happen. It looked that Ludwig was a bit off, so Filip's work was much needed. |

I just got back to the UK. A big thank you to Zim and Mrs Zim for their hospitality. That was my first Pauli game, and I loved it. The new stand was a damn sight more swish than I expected. The atmosphere was fantastic. Great to finally make it there. My dad came with me just for the sake of it. He doesn't like football, but he was well into it from the start. He even got involved in the chants! We'll be getting him a Pauli cap I think. Maybe stick him with the USP next time?
I must agree that the Gegengerade lot were loud as all hell. Something for the USP to live up to I think.
I have to say about the ref: He seemed to favour us in the first half and decide to make up for it by favouring 1860 in the second! All in all though, it seemed everyone agreed he did well for his first time.
Trojan was ace. Always willing to run at players, giving 1860 a right headache. That said, when he came off (any news about his condition by the way?) we brought on Hoilett.* I was really impressed. Needs to learn when to knock off the stepovers, but he was also happy to run at them. He worked hard. He also took a few kicks and got back up, which surprised me a little as he only seems to come up to my knee. Hain was solid, which was good, especially as some of the defending was hair raising at times. I've never seen so many balls sliced up in the air.
I have to admit, I wasn't sure we'd get anything. 3 points was a pleasant surprise. I loved being able to be there, and I'll be dragging a couple of friends with me next time.
* I have to be honest, I had to get Zim to tell me who he was. Wee feller was too quick for me to read the back of his shirt with my dodgy eyesight! |
