They could do a film about the Londoners going to Brownstock Very Happy

My understanding of German is not great, but my reading of this is we can just start up with five names and give them to the Fanladen. We don't need formal structures, secretaries, treasurers, constitutions etc.

This is correct. I think there is a fee of 30 Euro involved as well and you need to find a name. Btw: there are no discounts in the shop if you have a registered supporters club. Discounts are only for members of the club FC St.Pauli. But as a supporters club you'll receive invitations to the fanclub tournaments, you are represented by and elect the Fanclubsprecherrat (the "council of the speakers of the fan clubs") and you have some kind of priority when booking tickets for the special trains. Not so many big advantages as you would get most of these things already in an informal way, so you should - just as John said - rather look at what you want to achieve by founding a supporters club.

Dear St. Pauli Fans,

I´m one of the authors from Berlin who would like to make a report about St. Pauli Fans in Great Britian. The TV.Magazin "Sport Inside" is independent, looking for background information and its famous for thinking outside the box. All the information we have about St. Pauli-Fans in the UK are from the "Guardian", "Tagesspiegel" and what you will find in the internet. So we would be very grateful to hear and read, what is for you important in beeing a fan of St. Pauli. For us is very important whats makes St.Pauli different to the rest of the football - world. So please feel free to contact us.

Thanks

Achim

Um... I don't want to keep on treading on people's toes, especially not John's, but I can't see how this is anything but good news.

If they do a thing on "English footballfans turning to the Bundesliga" i´d find it interesting. But that would mean that they´d have to interview the hordes of UK Cottbus and Bielefeld fans as well (and perhaps the odd Schalke and Bayner fan). That could work, but if it´s only St Pauli then there isn´t a story.

WaddockHunt, note that I don´t write anything about being omitted from your listing of wherefrom your members come...

Oh yes there is, and it's not about the Bundesliege. It's about the totally unique position that St Pauli occupy in European football.

But then they should also travel to other parts of Europe and meet St Pauli fans there... That might be interesting!

Absolutely. Great. Let them go for it! Nobody is claiming that St Pauli's overseas fans only come from the UK. You only have to look at the flags, banners, penants and scarves on the walls in the Jolly Roger to appreciate that!

we havent turned to the Bundesliga...we've turned to the Bundersliga II Very Happy

I can't see any harm in this and after all the piece is being written for the consumption of Germans......I quite like the idea of HSV fans choking on their cornflakes as they realise that the mighty FCSP have a wider recognition than their pathetic team.

Having said all that, dealing with the media is a two way thing, and if those who watch in the Zeitgeist don't want an article written about them then that's fair enough.

We all have our own reasons for supporting St Pauli. The people I've met through this board and my trips to Hamburg probably know mine.
I enjoy what I do and don't need/want to justify or explain or even entertain other people with those reasons. I don't like the idea of us being held up to view as some 'oddball' bunch of Brits or members of some media driven bandwagon or who adopt any 'holier than thou' attitude compared to other football fans and want to 'convert' them. If some of you do, then fair enough. I would rather continue going to watch games, preferably with John, Roge, Zim, Ion, Andy and the rest of the gang but on my own if necessary. As anyone who has been to a game with me will attest, I enjoy myself. But some things are better off with a smattering of dignity. Even being a football fan.
Count me out.

OK, I give the more extravert response. To be honest, I never knew who St Pauli were until Attila (a good friend - sorry but he is, and I was at his 50th birthday party, and he was wearing his St Pauli hooded top) told me about the club. That's about three years ago.

FC St Pauli is such a unique phenomenon: football, socialism, anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia, and more football.

It's not 'oddball'. It's not daft to be at Zeitgeist on Sunday in London, nor anywhere else. Birmingham, Edinburgh, and I'm sure folks know we have guys in Washington DC even -

I think this is done with dignity, and I am all for spreading the word about FC St Pauli as far and wide as possible.

It's not ofen I agree with this grumpy bastard's grumpiness and misanthrophy (It's a matter of degree) but I concur with Les. It'll turn out like some late night, after pub, 10 minute slot on one of these global roundup footie prorammes about some wacky english guys who go to watch east fife (sorry St pauli fifer, but I couldn't spell arbraoth)

St Pauli:no borders
