Hmmm...I'm currently intoxicated by Dunkertons Black Fox Cider, Cool . Well come on, I had to celebrate the BNP membership list leak some way...and drown my sorrows at the fact Hereford lost again today Evil or Very Mad .

Anyway, for all you Bulmers lovers, try some bloody Westons. True Herefordshire cidee! Ok?! Wink

Be careful with Cider......they get the extra flavour by putting a dead rat or old boot in the barrel Shocked

Here is a recipe for a strong scrumpy. One glass and the world seems a better place, two glasses and you will not remember.

You should let the scrumpy mature for a year to become smoother and mellower

Ingredients:

12 pounds apples
1/2 pound raisins
1/2 pound raw meat (dead rats will do nicely!)
1 gallon water at 70 degrees
champagne yeast (tradition calls for bakers yeast)

Method

Chop and grind the apples and raisins. These days a food processor will do the trick
Use a brewing barrel with an airlock - sort of thing Boots sell
Put the ground apples and raisins into the water with the chopped meat.
Stir thoroughly
Add the yeast and seal the brewing barrel with the airlock
Everyday swirl the barrel to stir the ingredients
after the first fermentation slows, about 8-10 days, move to a similar vessel for secondary fermentation.
If you like a dry cider, add a second dose of yeast to the secondary fermentation. Seal with an airlock.
Let it sit until it the fermentation slows to a very slow, almost imperceptible bubble.
Move to a carboy to let the heavier particles settle out.
Let it sit for about a week and bottle.
The scrumpy will need to mature for about four months before you will want to even try it since it will give off a strong unpleasant smell and almost vinegary taste.
The longer it is allowed to mature, the better, smoother and drier it will get.

And if you just want to drink Cider, you can get it in Devon
Grays Farm Cider, Halstow, Tedburn St Mary tel 01 647 61236

My great great grandfather came from Tedburn St Mary.

anufc. I totally agree with you.
Brittany undoubtedly produce the best cider.

A good bottle of Cidre Bruche. Can't go wrong.
From Brittany with a cork in the top. Absolute quality stuff.

Oh, and Magners, Bow, Blackthorn are piss.

Anyone tried the Hall & Woodhouse Badger Cider? Noticed it the other day but as I'm (hate the word) detoxing I didn't buy any...

I love their ales so was wondering what the cider is like.

Yea, I couldn't see a thread on cider, so being a true Herefordian through & through I thought I would start one.

What do you lot reckon? Obviously our stuff here is by far superior to the Somerset or Kent stuff. Although I'm not dead against it, some is nice.

Westons Organic Premium Cider for me please. Cool

Wine of the west. Razz

Whaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Superior to Somerset Cider?! Superior to THE cider county! Shame on you Rebel Bull.

Far better than the Westons muck is the fine scrumpy brew of Perrys.

The medium dry is quite delectable!

Also the pubs own cider (Sonny's Cider) from the Royal Oak in Hardington is also a fantastic pint.

The Adolf Wagner, we tried. Absolutely superb Apfelwein. Stumbled across it by mistake, but a cracking bar, with superb drink and great food as well.
After the Wales - Germany match in 07 we watched the England - Croatia highlights together and had a great laugh! Laughing
