Yea, I couldn't see a thread on cider, so being a true Herefordian through & through I thought I would start one.
What do you lot reckon? Obviously our stuff here is by far superior to the Somerset or Kent stuff. Although I'm not dead against it, some is nice.
Westons Organic Premium Cider for me please.

Not that much into Cider, but I like the Irish Bulmers (Magners outside Ireland), especially in the pint bottle and with a glass of ice cubes. I remember that Blackthorn had a good price/taste relation in the off licence when I spent some time in Dublin.
All other Ciders I tried so far were too sweet for me. _________________ Irish Folk&Rebel from St.Pauli:

That isn't a bad thing around these parts. Being a young lad and all . Joking, Herefordshire is beautiful and I would cry if I couldn't see its loverlyness in the summer time. _________________

Bizarrely enough I first read about the cyanide traces in the apple pips causing blindness in reference to elderly cider drinkers in Normandy, but trying to find a link I could only locate a Wiki page (which linked to the Herefordshire Cider Museum no less) claiming that you'd need to regularly drink upwards of two gallons of scrumpy a day to induce temporary blindness.
Now that shouldn't be a problem for a healthy young lad like you should it? _________________ Lover, Poet, Philosopher, Drunk and Bore...All in five easy pint shaped pieces. |

They try to promote that in Germany now as well, but it's too sweet for my taste. You get Strongbow Gold at the Millerntor and the Jolly Roger offers both Strongbow and English Bulmers. _________________ Irish Folk&Rebel from St.Pauli:

Around the time of the Norman conquest, the climate of Britain was much warmer than it is now (not because of our carbon footprint either!). The main cider producing area of the country was North Yorkshire. Vines were cultivated as far north as Edinburgh as well. A propos of nothing....
I like Weston's Old Rosie but I'm not a big cider drinker. I remember drinking something called Knee Cracker cider while watching the Wimbledon v Liverpool cup final. Monumental headache and projectile vomitus as a result. I'll stick to beer, wine and rum thanks. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

Sorry folks, but over-hyped alcopops such as Magners, Woodpecker & Strongbow just don't cut the mustard down ere in the west country
There are many places in & around Bristol that provide a good pint of cider. Kingswood Pirate is spot on about 'the Apple boat' its THE in place for connoisseurs of great tasting/lethal apple juice. Just check the blackboard on the lower deck for the latest guest ciders that tend to vary from 6%-9%. A great night is guaranteed
Whilst on our 2008 summer footy tour in Scandinavia we discovered a fine cider in Malmo Can't remember what it was called but it came in small white cans with pictures of either an apple or a pear on them. Both flavours were a very credible 7% and very refreshing _________________ 1883 & 1910 are great years for pirates |
