I don't know if it is any help, but my reason(s) for supporting St Pauli are
For starters I am the offspring of a St Pauli supporting dad, so there was always that link. I wasn't into football at all however until about four years ago when I rediscovered them and as a result fell in love with football for the first time. Football had always seemed a very alien and scary world up until then.
I have a very vivid memory from childhood, I was watching the news on tv and it showed some football hooligans on a train in England terrorising the people in their train carriage. There were a group of brownies in the carriage and one of the little girls was sitting on the brownie leader's lap crying her eyes out, utterly terrified. That for me was football and it scared me witless.
It wasn't until years later that I found a way into the game and this was through St Pauli. Because for the first time I felt comfortable with a club. I didn't have to be ashamed of or scared of either the player or fan behavior.
No racism, no homophobia, no violence, no misogyny.
And as a girly

I didn't feel excluded or like I was seen as less by the other fans.
Politically I'm a socialist, however I would guess my politics would be poles apart from many of the other British fans on here (I could be wrong on that though). I don't like the extremism at either end of the political spectrum. Contrary to popular belief it isn't yet a requirement that a fan must be a communist or anarchist.

It is a requirement however to be tolerant of each others differences and beliefs.
For me Sankt Pauli is football as it should be. Above all else comes tolerance, respect and fun.
Friede Freude Eierkuchen! (für alles)
