I'm enjoying this stuff about music...It's good how we share a lot of common stuff here... 'My Aim is True' for example.
Can I just indulge myself in a spot of name-dropping regarding aforesaid Mr Eno?
I shared a table with him at the Marquee in London back in the late 70s at a 'Brand X' gig... remember them? Bill Bruford on drums I think but could be wrong. Don't remember much else about them except they were jazz/rock and I think they had an album out called 'Morrocan Roll' at the time. Anyway the young Brian was not at all pretentious and was quite happy to chat about how St Pauli were doing that season and drink lager.
What do you guys think about 'Another Day on Earth'? I can't make my mind up about it.
(I lied about the St Pauli bit) _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

Just to throw my anorak onto the peg, Eno produced 3 Talking Heads albums: More Songs about Buildings and Food, Fear of Music and Remain in Light. Fear of Music would probably make my top ten, and the other 2 as well.
Actually, Talking Heads were instrumental (ahem!) in bringing Ms. Zim and me together. The first time she came back to my flat, the first thing she asked was if I had any Talking Heads. I just reached out and picked up the Storytelling Giant vid and asked "What do you mean, have I got any Talking Heads?"
Nice to see so many people on the board with excellent taste in music as well as football! _________________ "His first kick was a header and he missed it."

Good to see Manchester Gloom Rock featuring highly in your list Petra, excluding the Roses of course! _________________ Lost your love of life? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE! |

actually, the Roses would be the one album I grabbed if the house was on fire
I find it hard to compile a list like this, though, and - like someone wrote before me on this thread - the list would always change slightly, depending on what mood I am in generally
still, looking through my collection, Mancunian bands have always ranked high on my all my lists! _________________

I meant in the sense that they weren't gloomy. Actually, neither were The Smiths come to think of it. Well, perhaps half the time Lambasting Moz as miserable was/is thoroughly lazy. I find 'There is a light that never goes out' to be one of the most uplifting songs ever written.
The Stone Roses were in my 10 as was 'The Queen Is Dead'. Fine choices. I see Mr O'Banton is of similar mind _________________ Lost your love of life? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE! |

To tell the truth there isn't much released these days that would get near a top ten for me, however I agree though with Antics by Interpol, which is fantastic. The only others that I can think of is 'Underdog World Strike' by GolGol Bordello, 'Keep on your Mean Side' by The Kills and 'Hot Fuss' by The Killers. _________________ Estudiantes; Striped shirts, black panties |

I saw Gogol Bordello on some MTV Coverage of the South By Southwest Festival. Looked bloody mental....but good. May have to check out some more stuff.
Interpol are just one of those bands that I instantly 'got', but it would normally take at least 5 years for me to consider anyone that highly. Have you seen them live? Marvellous they are! _________________ Lost your love of life? TOO MUCH APPLE PIE! |

Haven't seen them or many bands live recently. It was one of the things that I meant to correct when I moved up norf but so far I have only got to the Pogues and Golgol Bordello - who were absolutely cracking live. Indeed the next concert that I am going to is Echo and the Bunnymen and that's going to be back in Norf Landaaaan.
Golgol Bordello's album is superb but if you get the chance to see them live grab it. Seen them at Manchester University and they were storming (then again a large dose of Newcastel Brown ale before meant anyone would have sounded good at the time!)
I know what you mean about Interpol their is something about them that really hits the mark, its strange because I think that 'The Editors' can sound similar but are not really a patch on Interpol. _________________ Estudiantes; Striped shirts, black panties |
