Asked my 'trainspotting' colleague about this today. He seems to think the incident involved some younger guys, skinhead types, who spat on an orthodox Jewish family that were visiting the railway. This, he says, was just before Christmas when the railway run their Xmas Specials.

This had me worrying until I did a bit of research!
My wife's grandfather was a German PoW who stayed here after the war and married an Accrington girl. He was a paratrooper and we still have pictures of him in his uniform. There is a cuff band similar to those you describe that says 'Kreta.' My Wikipedia research led me to the discovery that this was an honour for the invasion of Crete and also that, unlike British paratroopers, the German paras were part of the Airforce, not the army.
He died before I met my wife, but family lore has it that one of his fellow PoWs was non other than one Bert Trautmann, who went on to play for Man City and famously played in a Cup Final with a broken neck!

Well, on Tueday we became the first team to turn Leeds over at Elland Road this season; quite a turn-up.
Personally I can't help feeling that our current good run and the fact that Keith Alexander now sits on the bench is more than co-incidence.

I take it Mr Castleford that you're a Leeds fan then? Or (to revive one of our chants from Tuesday) "Are you Rochdale in disguise?"
Sorry mate, couldn't resist.

Yes another tie with Leeds would indeed be good (though if it's money you're hoping to pull in, I'm sure there are much more potentially lucrative possibilities).
We've yet to get past Exeter in the next round though, who have a history of causing upsets in FA Cup ties.

As for the Johnstone's Paint thingy, the draw happened this morning and we've got Morecambe away in the week commencing 7th Jan 08 (Stockport home to Grimsby in the other Northern semi) which means (as I can't make next week's league fixture), I may make it to Christie Park this season after all.
Still some tough opposition in the Southern section though (Swansea are at home to Brighton and Gillingham to MK Dons).
Still, to be two games away from Wembley is indeed a pleasant surprise.

My humble apologies Castleford, it was your Yorkshire-sounding 'handle' that threw me. I've just checked your previous posts and note that you're an Exeter fan.
Once again I apologise for any offence, nay distress, I may have caused you.
Will you be coming to Gigg Lane for the fixture? If so let me know as I owe you, at the very least, a drink for my serious faux pas.

Take care

Stuart

Well, in time-honoured fashion at this time of the season, we look as though we may yet again be struggling to avoid relegation in the next few months. Surely Caspar can't hang on much longer; the only man who's ever had us at the bottom in 122 years (and he's managed it twice!)

On a lighter note, here's a joke....

A bloke goes to Gigg Lane and sits down next to a chap who has his dog with him.
Ten minutes into the game, the visitors score a 'sitter.'
A voice says "Bloody Hell Bury, you're crap!"
The man thinks "Am I imagining things or did that dog just speak."
Another fifteen minutes go by and the visitors put another one into the net.
The voice again says "Bloody Hell Bury, you're a bag of shite!"
"Excuse me" the man says to the dog's owner "But I'm sure I just heard your dog say 'Bloody Hell Bury, you're a bag of shite' after that last goal"
"Yes" says the dog's owner, "He always says stuff like that when the opposition score."
"Remarkable" says the man, "What does he say when Bury score?"
"I don't know" comes the reply "I've only been bringing him for two years!"

there used to be a Soviet orchestra that operated without a conductor. Maybe Bury could adopt this approach!

In fairness, much credit has to be due to Chris Brass in his 'thrown-in-at-the-deep-end' caretaking role.

(The cynic/pessimist/realist in me can't help fearing it could well be back to 'business-as-usual' when we entertain Stockport on Bradford this coming Saturday and Tuesday respectively though!)

Also salutations due to the 800plus Norwich supporters who made the nine-hour round-trip on a wet and weary January Tuesday. Also worthy of mention was the in-depth and thoroughly well researched piece on Bury in their programme for the Carrow Road fixture a week last Saturday.

Thanks Roger.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make the journey myself.
It's our league situation that still very much worries be. Fourth from the bottom is still a very precarious place to be more than half way through the season, especially with the form of some of those below us (eg Mansfield, Wrexham) on the 'up.'

Well, looks like it wasn't to be a repetition of us beating Soton 4.0 in the 1900 FA Cup final after all.
Still, we made a fight of it and it was by no means a whitewash.
