If you book in advance there's an IC train departing Berlin Hbf at 10:21 and arriving at Hamburg Hbf at 12:21 which costs 47 euro one way (£30?). Couldn't see any discounts on it and the trains either side were 58 euro. What about a Schoneswochender ticket? Will take an age but save a fortune.

Or perhaps PM Heiko Fanladen to find out if he knows if Iron Union are laying on a fans train and travel realy cheaply in disguise? Wink

thanks for responding.

what is Schoneswochender?, i can;t seem to get a translation of it.

what are the union berlin fans like? as that might be an idea. i did an undercover thing once at rangers ground when hibs end was sold out and had to do a runner after less than an hour - not pleasant people, as i am sure you have heard Very Happy

A "Schönes Wochenende" ticket is one that allows about 5 people (iirc) to travel for a fixed price (€40, or am I being old? Laughing) on non-intercity trains for the entire weekend, more or less. So if you plan your route well in advance, and allow plenty of time and hope there are no delays, you could get to Hamburg for a fraction of the price, if you travel with enough other people. You also get to see places (OK, stations) that you would never otherwise see. Very Happy

Maybe you could find some nice Union fans who also speak English and would let you go along...
