have been in discussion on the FCUM board this week and there seems a divide over those who see it as a club set up just so disgruntled MUFC fans have a cheap club to go to on a saturday and those of a more political leaning who want to continue the policitical line and push /promote the club as being a radcial venture ala st pauli...

Can it not be both?

i agree, yes it can be both. But some people seemd to take offense in me saying that not everyone is there as a disgruntled mufc fan!

Re your PM.
I tried to reply twice but got a failure notice; maybe something to do with not being able to include a link in a PM.
I'm sure you won't mind me being more 'public' with my reply and it also may help to answer things for your fellow FCUM fans on the forum.

Anyway, an 'explanation' (of sorts) was posted on Friday and here is the link..

Personally, I'm not entirely convinced that any potential damage would have been as bad as is claimed.
After all, only a few seasons ago we shared with Man U reserves and Swinton Lions RLFC. (On occasion, Swinton played at Gigg on a Sunday the very day after one of our own home fixtures).
Gigg Lane was also the home ground for the "Emerging Nations" section of the Rugby League World Cup and the Premier section of the Lacrosse World Cup (admittedly this was in the 'closed season' but swiping at the turf with those strange 'basket' things can't have done it any good!)

cheers for that, looks like a few"wires got crossed"it has certainly pissed of a lot our fans.like ive said this one could run and run.but i fear that it has done damage to the relationship both clubs had in our first season.
i cant help thinking if dave nugent hadnt had moved, the bury board would still be a bit more friendly towards us!

By the way, there's a further statement (issued late last night I believe) regarding comments that were made in 'Non-League' yesterday.
I haven't seen the 'Non-League' piece so can't really comment, but it seems Bury FC have asked for a apology.

Hopefully the 'emergency' loan of our goallie Aaron Grundy may have done something to heal any potentially lasting ill-feeling.
How did he do on Saturday by the way?

had quite a solid game - looked brave and wasn't afraid to take a kick in the guts. Looked confident. I was happy with him.

Personally, I've nothing against 'weak' beer per se (as long as it does not purport to be strong). My regular tipple is Deuchars' IPA which is only about 3.8.
What I don't like is that 'smooth' stuff. It's not particularly the taste (although most varieties do seem lacking in that department) but the banging headache (or rather a 'sinus-ache') I seem to get even after just a few. It's probably down to whatever gas they use to pump it with.

Sorry mods, I just realised this response should probably have been in the 'Beer' section.

Artificially added Nitrogen Dioxides in 'smooth' beers rather than naturally produced Carbon Dioxide. My subject is Physics not Chemistry but my beer knowledge is better....

Sulphur Dioxide also reduces the taste of hops and malt as well as giving a smoother mouthfeel.

@Mods: Sorry.

Embarassed I mean Nitrogen Dioxide not Sulphur Dioxide of course, otherwise we would be drinking Sulphurous acid or even Sulphuric acid if the beer became oxygenated!

Nitrogen dioxide? Shocked

Shurely shome mishtake. I know they use nitrogen gas (N2) instead of CO2 in some pumping systems, as it's easily available, but I wouldn't touch anything that was full of NO2, and I'm just an ex-physicist. Razz

And now the beer forum's leaking... Confused Laughing

Zim, I can only apologise for my confused beer-induced ramblings of last night (see Waddock's thread about banning people from posting when they are drunk!). Embarassed Laughing Nitrogen Dioxide is, as you rightly point out, a highly toxic gas ( as is Sulphur Dioxide which I erroneously mentioned as well), and should not come anywhere near beer.
The gas used in so called 'smooth' beers is a Nitrogen/carbon dioxide mix which gives the beer its texture although it is also reported to reduce the taste as well. It's also used in the pouring of draught Guinness of course.
Now, back to the football...... Wink
