ive been a leeds fan since i was young, being from wakefield and my family were leeds fans. didnt really go see them though cos my dad is into rugby rather than footbal so other than the odd game here and there, that was it.
heard about st pauli a while back, but didnt really know too much about em other than that they were the most punk football team around. after playing as them on championship manager i started to read more about them and it seems to me that they are fucking awesome in every respect |

Although I'm a Stag through and through, I live in Leeds these days and have played (to a very poor standard!) in Refugee Week football tournaments involving FC Republica. Although I get a bit frustrated by some of the myopic 'big-club-itis' of many Leeds United fans (why are big crowds such a source of pride in a one club city of 700,000 and within a wider West Yorkshire region of 2.5 million without any serious rivals?), I've been seriously impressed by the large proportion of LUFC fans who have tried constantly and fairly successfully to reclaim the club from the Right. Its definitely not an easy job and as a relative neutral, I think that LUFC get alot of unfair stick from other activist-supporters. There are a lot of anti-racist football supporters from Leeds and I think they should be proud of the fact that they are working to make their local club a source of hope rather than giving up and deserting them for a trendier club with less of a reputation.
I'm also a regular at Headingley watching Leeds RL. Given the fact that even a non-league ground like the Mill is all-seater these days, I've always thought that the atmosphere in the low roofed, touchline hugging, all terraced South Stand (especially when Bradford, Wigan, Saints, Hull or Cas are in town) is the closest thing left in England to the sort of atmosphere found at the Millerntor. This may change though as the stand's capacity has been reduced from 12,000 down to 8,000 and now 6,000 in recent years.
I have to confess to being a disappointed that FC St Pauli's 'rugby' section plays the 15 a side game favoured by Vichy collaborationists and the defenders of SA apartheid, rather than the 13 a side game who's very reason for existence was to ensure that people from poorer backgrounds weren't excluded from playing the game by ensuring they could be recompensed for time lost from work. Having said that I also appreciate that RU's greater influence due to its base in those with wealth and power means that RU is better known in Germany and so FCStP's 'rugby' section would have more chances of actually playing matches against other teams.
Rant over! |

PS Fantastic to see your Leatherface avatar, Jam. "The air round here, smells of religion and Vauxies beer...". Absolute quality. Have you seen Frankie down at Joseph's Well for the all dayers? Out of Spite will be missed. |

I'd agree with you on that. Leeds fans did a great job in the late 80s ridding themselves of the NF. Most, if not all, Leeds fans I know are sound... _________________ Martin Taylor is Innocent |
