What a wonderful opening ceremony. We will all now forget your totalitarianism.

Totalitarian regimes are always good at ceremonies. It's something they do best.

Tehran, Pyongyang, Nuremberg etc...
But what about this country and the plans for an "Armed Forces Day" public holiday which has been recommended by the government as to improve public recognition of the military, this day would include military parades in towns and cities throughout the UK.

In the World Wars, the public supported the Army because people knew that it was made up of civilians to defend against invasion but they aren't exactly defending the shores of Britain at the moment? Every government since has tried to cash in on this affection for "civilian" armies, ignoring the fact that the public have never liked the professional career soldier who fights because he likes it, rather than because he has to.

The mass media wouldn't be doing a good job for there employers should they let the populous forget it.
Pointing out injustace/sob storeys etc.. at the same time passing it off as the only alternative.
