....and, as usual, capitalism is the cause it seems....

This is almost grave enough to qualify for the "...more serious note..." section. Not just for the fact that bananas are dying out but all this background stuff about 'banana-magnates' hiring private armies to invade Honduras etc is very intriguing.

Bananas have caused a ridiculous amount of conflict over the past 150 years, most of South Americas had some form of 'banana war' at one time or another.

Interesting stuff. I'm more worried about endocrine disrupters and oestrogen in the water supply and their effect on wildlife through our fucking pollution though.
Stuart, you might want to read 'The World Without Us' by Alan Weisman and check out the documentary on Channel 4 tomorrow at 9pm.

Being something of a Luddite, I don't have a TV set (though I do have a 'stand-alone' DVD player), but I'll look out for the book.
