I'm a founding member of the New York City Borough Boys.
We're a grassroots supporters club dedicated to bringing a MLS team
to the actual city of New York.
Many of us are huge fans of St.Pauli and look to St.Pauli fans as inspiration.
Anyone in NYC who wants to look us up, let me know....
and i'm also trying to get a supporters club going here in the city for
St.Pauli...

Interesting - I guess you are the first supporters club without a football club. Is there any lower league football going on in NYC? Planning to get over to NYC next March would be interesting to get a feeling for how football is like in the US.

However, The Borough Boys supporters club might not be a suitable environment for young children as obscenities are a part of the culture of supporting a team. We ask all parents to use discretion.

Shocked Shocked Shocked

obscenities at a football match... in our stand, the youngest kids are about 2-3 years old and it's not the family section Cool

If there'll be a new ground for pro football I would suggest that you lobby heavily for a real terrace.

We currently support 2 very very low level teams...
Brooklyn Knights, and Long Island Rough Riders..
NYC is hungry for pro soccer, but haven't been represented properly by
two facts :
1. The closest pro team is in New Jersey, which is hard to get to right now
by people without owning cars...
2. The team has been purchased by the RedBull corporation, and they are using soccer as a way to sell their drink.

We think we deserve better, and the owner of the NY Mets, has expressed interest in buying a club and putting it in Queens. We've had a meeting with him and he's showed us his plans for the area.
Now with the fianicial problems going on, the plan has been put on hold.

Let me know when you come to the City... the Borough Boys will show you around.

How does that work in the US or rather the MLS - you have a closed league (no relegation or promotion) and if you want to have a team in that league you need to buy a licence? And with that licence you can put a team in any city you like and move it as you like as well?

cheers, I am planning 5 days or so around St.Patrick's Day. A friend of mine (St.Pauli supporter as well) will be over from January til end of March, will tell him about your club.

In the US...the league is set up as a single unit.
Ironically, the US is very socialist when it comes to sports.
Everyone shares in league money from TV rights and merch.
When teams sell players overseas, they league gets the money, not the team.
Basically, the owner of the mets would have to buy a franchise (40 Million),
and build a soccer-Specific stadium.
No promotion, no relegation.
It's good and bad. The season can be very uninteresting because of the lack of danger from being at the bottom of the table, yet there is more parity in the league due to the even playing field as far as money is concerned.
It's not perfect, but soccer and MLS is growing in the US expotentially.
People are really getting into the sport.
We're hoping to get in by 2012 at the earliest.
New York deserves a proper team, and would have a great rivarly with NJ if we got a team.
With 20 million people in the metro area, we can def support 2 teams.

Yea...let me know when you come to NYC.
Hopefully we'll have our St.Pauli supporters club up by the time you get here.

Population of Scotland at 2001 census 5,062,011. We have 42 teams across 4 divisions of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish League.

Best of luck with your quest - though from your website it looks like you are having plenty of fun supporting your lower-level teams.

Thanks...we do have fun... that also has to do with how much we drink..hehe.

And since that the average new stadium being built for soccer is 20k,
that's going to be 20 million for 40k worth of stadium seats in the metro area.
All Fred Wilpon needs to do, is buy the damn franchise already....

Yo I found out about St. Pauli through the Borough Boys, and if we find a place that will allow us to watch the games I'm sure St. Pauli will become as big a part of my life as Blackburn Rovers, and getting a Team in NYC.

You don't have to look further than yours truly for the SPSC founding, Johnny. Only bummer is the games are smack in the middle of Friday, or bright and early on Sunday.

The whole league system here isn't right, but what can you do.
