As I've mentioned before, I'm well served by nearby football clubs. Team Northumbria (Northern League Div2), Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics (Northern League Div1) and West Allotment Celtic (also Northern League Div1) all play within a short walking distance of my house. NUFC's training ground - where their U18s play - is also within walking distance. It means that I can almost guarantee a game on my doorstep every Saturday.
I've just found out that NUFC reserves are going to play their home games (except for 3) at West Allotment Celtic's ground this season. Deep joy!
WAC are my current faves. They've strengthened their squad and play fast attacking football. They've won 4 out of the 5 competitive games that they've played this season and are 2nd in their league. Last season I tended to watch Newcastle Benfield in this league but being a football tart I'm switching my allegiance this year (glory hunter! Embarassed ), as I fancy WAC to do something and they're actually geographically the nearest by a hundred metres or so. Plus Shakers seems taken with my new boys! Laughing
Obviously I'll still go to see my beloved NUFC and Blyth Spartans when I want more expensive thrills.

West Allotment Celtic went top of the Northern League Division 1 last night with a 4-2 win over Ryton at home. Newcastle Benfield BP went 2nd with a draw at home to Ashington. A proud night for the east end of Newcastle. I couldn't go to either game as I got home late and just sprawled out with a bottle of cider while I watched a DVD. It was called 'Doomsday' as it happens.....

West Allotment Celtic - I think that has to be the best name for a football team I have ever heard. Do they have a derby match with the bastards from the East Allotments?

West Allotment was a pit village near Killingworth in North Tyneside. It was swallowed up by commuter belt housing estates when the pit closed and 'affluence' came to the North East. The football club moved 3 miles west rather than disband and worked their way up through the local amateur leagues.
Not sure where the Celtic link comes from but they do play in green and white hoops and green shorts. They, like Team Northumbria, have a lot of pro Academy players on loan from NUFC and SAFC.
The idea of East Allotment is a bit like wondering if West Ham play East Ham - maybe in Roy of the Rovers?
Local derby is definitely against Newcastle Benfield.

This Tuesday sees WA Celtic away to Team Northumbria in the Northern League League Cup. The two grounds being separated by the cul-de-sac that my house stands in, a couple of playing fields and the grounds of the new DHSS (or whatever it's called now) building. I will be there if at all possible.
