i am a big fan of the belgian team Kv Kortrijk. During most of the 80's we played in the first division. in the nineties we went to the second division (the first division for one year in 98/99). since then we played in the second, third and almost 4th division due to bankruptcy (we won the final tour and could stay in the third division) in 2004/2005 we went up to the second division again. this season we became champion in the second division and next season we are playing in the first season again.

most of the players are semi-pro and we have a super small budget (this year 1,2 million euros, should be 3.6 million euros next season) our stadium can hold about 7000 spectators, the average numb. of spectators is around 2000. we sold out for some cup matches. next season we will have a capacity of around 10.000 . i guess we can hope for an average attendance of around 6000
some ex-kortrijk players that might ring a bell are william prunier, djamel zidane and emile mpenza
KV kortrijk fans have a not so good reputation. some of the serious soccer related incidents this season involved kortrijk supporters. there were riots / incidents after the cup matches again aa gent and zulte waregem (our sworn enemies). after some incidents some of the more hardcore hools got kicked out of the stadium and since then the racist chants and flags are almost gone (untill a couple of years ago white power flags could be seen at away games)
Internationaly there are links with Swansea city and HFC Haarlem
i first heard about st. pauli about 8 years ago from a friend who is a hardcore zulte waregem fan. being left wing it was obvious for me to get interested in a team like st. pauli. as a fan of bands like turbonegro, sisters of mercy and kmfdm i got even more interested. i guess that both kv kortrijk and st. pauli fans know how hard the struggle to stay alive can be in soccer |

Greetings from England.
I have to confess I don't know too much about Belgian football. I suppose the most notable Belgian player to play over here was Phillipe Albert. He scored a fantastic goal for Newcastle when they beat Manchester Utd 5-0. _________________ freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice... Either of you Belgian fans care to shed light on Zulte Waregem?
There are rumours that Portsmouth and them are about to reach some sort of agreement regarding player loans etc. I've never heard of them and am interested to know what sort of club Waregem are.
Thanks!

KSV Waregem was a club with a lot of tradition, that played in red and white (same as kortrijk) played in europe a couple of times (once beat AC Milan) but had huge problems in the late nineties. We went from the first division (like your premier league) to second and then in one year to fourth division. Altough we still played for a, for belgian standards, reasonably large crowd, KSV Waregem merged with VV Zulte to become SV Zulte Waregem. At least, that was wat was said because in reality it was more just Zulte that was playing in Waregem stadium. A group of us fought this with quite succes until they started giving every one of us stadium bans, including me, and created f*cked up measures. Despite that they changed the colours from yellow-green with a shiny touch of our beloved red to red and green. That for the non-sportive side.
Sportively everything went great, we were champions in third division in our first year of SVZW. After three years in second division we became champions there. In our first year in the premier league we won the cup and went into europe beating Locomotiv Moscow, Austria Wien and Sparta Pragh en playing against Ajax Amsterdam, Espanyol Barcelona and going out of the cup against Newcastle United. We had a lot of compliments for playing good and attractive football. Now SVzW have become a solid club in the premier league, playing a bit more defensive but ending seventh in the recent season. We have a few good players but especially Mbaye Leye could be Portsmouth material.
If anyone has any further questions, just ask |

Always have time for Standard, left wing credentials and finally back on top. Why the links to Haalem? I was hoping to move there one day... |

Mentioning Belgian football and I always think of the quote from the then Leeds Utd chairman (Silver?) on ITV news when talking about the European Cup draw: ' ....We've drawn Standard Liege, the first leg will be played in Standard....'
Brilliant. _________________ 'The tragedy of humanity is not in the script; the tragedy is that there is no script'

speaking about leeds, they once lost 0-4 at home in the uefa cup to lierse after having won the first leg with 0-2 in lier. After that a "Remember Lierse" plaque was installed in the changing room |
