Good to see Canterbury City back on the footballing map. I used to play against them and always liked the pitch at there. Even played my first Kent U-19's game there. I remember the club was struggling back then (1992-94), when Frank Ovard and Karl Elsey were playing at the end of their careers!

Good luck for next season and hope they will be back in the Kent League soon!

It would be great to see Canterbury City complete again in the Kent League after the dark days, there was a proviso that when Kingsmead Stadium was sold for monies to be provided when a new stadium is built.
Plans for this are on-going and hopefully will come to fruition in the next couple of years or so.

Interesting you mention Frank Ovard and Karl Elsey, i remember them well when they were with Maidstone in the football league.

Remember seeing Frankie Ovard play when Maidstone beat Gillingham in their Non-League days around 1980 when Maidstone had Dickie Guy in goal.

If I remember correctly, Canterbury used to play in green and white. But I'm sure they switched to blue and red when I played against them. What colour do they play in now?

Those old Maidstone players bring back some memories. I used to go to Maidstone and Gills back in the 80's. Happier times for all three clubs I feel!

Yes, City's traditional colours were green and white, but this season they are wearing burgundy and white(a'la Arbroath).
This seems to be the main gripe with the fans who are very pleased to see Canterbury back in action, but it would be the icing on the cake to see them back in the green and white.

I remember watching Maidstone's first-ever league game at Peterborough and it was sad to see them go as their old London Road ground was sold before they joined the football league.

Still, they reformed and have now climbed their way back into the Ryman Prem since re-forming in the Kent County League as well.

Mark"Smoky" Gall, Mark Beeney, Steve Butler, Warren Barton et al, happy days watching the 'stones(even if it was at Dartford !)

I remember that Stones team well. I went to the first home league game, 4-1 win over Scarborough with a Steve Butler hat-trick if I remember correctly. I couldn't make the Peterborough game as I was on holiday. I also went to the last game at the Athletic Ground against Stafford Rangers. Their return has been a slow one and I can't help feeling that things were not managed very well upon the reformation. You only have to look at Aldershot to see how things could have been done. It has been a long slow process to get where they are now.

I'm sure we would have been at the same games in the past. Have you seen the

Canterbury City today clinched the title with a 9-2 away win at neighbours (don't laugh) Saga Sports & Social Club.

Royston Gough scored a club record 7 in the rout.

Well done to all concerned with the club, especially to those who had the necessary drive to re-kindle the club.

Hello everyone, forgive me for gate-crashing your forum, but andy t hasn't updated you on the mighty City!!
Pre-season going well, have beaten clubs in next two leagues up, put Margate reserves in their place 3-0, lost narrowly 1-3 to Ryman Premier Ramsgate - 4 leagues above or is it 5?, who then nicked, sorry - offered a better opportunity to one of our best players, and held both Kent League Premier Faversham 3-3 after being 0-2 down and Hythe 1-1 away.
Why am I telling you all this? Well some so and so was a complete twit on our forum and they've had to close it down, and I have to tell someone!
Sorry - don't know much about FC St Pauli, but going to look it up.
Regards
karthoarse

So here we meet again, Andy & Karthoarse.
Why is it that the twits always seem to choose the CCFC-forum for their messing about?
Somebody should tell the likes of md, skipper1 et all to join the St. Pauli-Forum until the City sets up a new one. How they're going to protect it is beyond me.
In the meantime read up a bit about St. Pauli (no, not you Andy, you seem to be in the know). Certainly one of the most interesting and unusual clubs over here. Having been born somewhere near Cologne I always had a soft spot for St. Pauli. Maybe it's because they're the underdogs and maybe that's also why I'm a City-fan. Mind you, City are underdogs when it comes to the pyramid, NOT when you look at the Kent County League. We're going to win the Div. 1, aren't we?

Answer on a postcard please addressed to.....

A little bird (well, it was El Presidente) told me, the CCFC-forum is still available, but NOT via the homepage. Go to Google and search for something like "Canterbury City Football Club Forum" and you'll get the link. It works - I've tried it. But the club doesn't control the old forum any more and that's why they call it "unofficial". Let's just hope there's not too much messin' about going on there.
Looks like we don't need to waste St. Pauli's space after all!

We'll leave that up to Andy, shall we? I'm pretty sure he will be happy to post in both forums. And hey - a week ago I didn't even know this place existed. Since I really do like St. Pauli there's nothing to stop me to come back occasionally ... not even you Laughing

Mike, you're welcome here any time.

Good luck with the season - I'm certain Andy will keep us up to speed!!

Canterbury managed to win their third game on the spin in the new season as they won 4-0 at Guru Nanak.
Played 3 won 3, so an excellent start from the City boys, but due to my other hopping activities i haven't managed to see them play yet.

Well done City, keep it up
