A film about FC St Pauli and its fans

Tears ran down the faces of players and fans, as in July 1991 the FC St Pauli lost 3:1 to the Stuttgarter Kickers in the relegation match, and had to set out on the bitter path into the second class. For three years at the Millerntor, National League football had been lived, played and celebrated, as in no other stadium. The unique spectator structured helped FC St Pauli become known for the best fans in the league, who’d been welcomed in every stadium.

The desire to make a film about these fans arose in Spring 1991. From then some editorial members and people from the circle around “Millerntor-Roar!” videoed every game, every action from the fans and much more besides. Countless hours of video-tape came together, that subsequently with laborious effort had to be reviewed and edited. Because of the diversity of subject-matter, by no means all the themes that deserved to, could be included in the 90 minutes of the finished video.

“…and I know, why I stand here.” is a mixture from the feelings of the fans, criticism of the existing circumstances in professional football, and last but not least a declaration of love for FC St Pauli, which for much fans is much more than a football club.

The film shows the home and away games, the results and defeats, as well the good and the bad - sides of ‘paid’ football. And that in no way objectively, but always from the viewpoint of the fans.

A while ago Heiko gave me the OK to copy my VHS version of "...and I know, why I stand here." onto to DVD and to run off copies for those who want one. Well I've finally got round to doing it so now need to get an idea of how many to run off. The discs and envelopes cost about 50p each and I expect it will cost a quid or two to post. On that basis I thought I'd ask for £5 for posted copies and £3 for any I can pass on by hand. I will give the "profit" to John to help with the cost of stopping the advertising that would be all over this board if he didn't pay the hosts to take it off. I originally offered the "profit" to Heiko for the Fanladen but he suggested we use it for running the board.

Drop me a PM if you want a copy and we'll see what we can sort out. I'm not really up on these things but John has a Paypal account so that could be one way of paying.

Be warned though. A lot of it is only camcorder quality and old camcorders at that.
