Has anyone else see this ridiculous state affairs that currently states that if Cardiff were to win the FA Cup they wouldn't get the usual UEFA Cup place because they are only associate members of the English FA as they play in Wales?

What a crock of shite! They can't play in the Welsh FA Cup along with Wrexham and Swansea as they chose to stay as members of the English Leagues - for obvious reasons - so can't qualify for Europe through that channel. Now the FA say they can't qualify for Europe through the FA Cup even though they're allowed to compete in it.

I know UEFA would probably overturn this if it happened but still! Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

The saddest one was Hereford United winning the Welsh cup during the English clubs ban in Europe.
they could not play in the Cup Winners Cup.

Well, it doesn't really matter now as Cardiff lost. With Enckelman in goal, City have managed to find a keeper more calamitous than James, and it was hardly surprising that Pompey would be gifted at least one goal.

(John Motson's commentary was more articulate than usual).
Fred Davies would be turning in his grave if he was dead.

I remember Shrewsbury were regular winners of the Welsh cup and even Chester, Crewe and South Liverpool have won it. It always seemed fair to me at the time that English clubs weren't able to qualify, as Cardiff City inevitably did, and I saw them beating clubs like Torpedo Moscow and Real Madrid back in the late 60s early 70s. Scheiß HSV beat us in the semi finals of the 1968 ECWC
