Another chant of HSV supporters is "Eine U-Bahn bauen wir - von St. Pauli bis nach Auschwitz"-"We'll build a subway - from St. Pauli up to Auschwitz"

does that answer your question at all?

Difficult question. Due to the higher turnout at their matches and growing popularity, their scum is losing influence and significance among the HSV supporters. St.Pauli playing in a different league for years now plays a roll as well. The times when HSV fans attacked St.Pauli pubs etc. seem to be over, though some hools still had to riot after some derbies in the 3rd league around the Hans Albers Platz, where some of their bars are located.
After those very derbies, it wasn't a problem for me and friend of mine - a die hard HSV fan - to walk through St.Pauli together, me in my FC St.Pauli, he in his HSV shirt.
On the other hand, you wouldn't find much of St.Pauli's left wing, alternative attitude there. We have some arseholes among the St.Pauli support as well, but the general direction is very clear - anti-fascist, anti-rascist, inclusive, rather relaxed. HSV is rather right of the middle, many people from the middle class suburbs (HSV country at its worst...), families etc. I am a very tolerant person and I know some good people who support HSV, but I feal uneasy when to many of their fans are around.

That's just my view and even just a small part of it. Very complicated topic. But one side-note: in a match commentary many years (decades) ago, the speaker said something like it's very sad to see such an aggressive attitude of the players on the ground and that it might even damage the "magnificent friendship" between HSV and St.Pauli Very Happy.

in the first half of the nineties, this chant was not only sung by a few, but by the masses. Hundreds of HSV supporters singing along in the train stations etc. - absolutely disgusting. I don't think that it is as popular anymore, but the HSV fans never wiped out the nazi scum among their support as St.Pauli did.

I've seen HSV play at the AOL Arena several times, and found their fans to be fine. However, once, on the U Bahn travelling "home" to St Pauli, where my hotel was, I was the only one getting off the train at St Pauli. There had been chants of Scheiß St Pauli as the train started to stop, and as I got off, I got lots of evil glares.

Another time, I sat in the Utspann on Talstraße watching HSV losing to Bremen, with several HSV fans, and we had a lot of laughs arguing about St Pauli and HSV. They were great guys, and very friendly, even though HSV lost.

Re Joll - hardly anybody's hear of him in Hamburg, and they're not too impressed about having another Dutchman as trainer!
