Sadly these young "Croats" and "Serbs" made headlines on the first day of this years' Australian Open in Melbourne when they clashed outside the stadium, i didn't see it as i was in the stadium, but all these dickheads are only around 15 years old and haven't got a fucking clue about their past.

Just young knobheads out to be a pain in the arse, there was nearly trouble there in 2004 when the security guys stopped a couple of groups posturing with each other. also they're a pain in the arse whilst watching the tennis as well at most times, however the Serbs were more respectful whilst watching the Serb babe Jelena Jankovic rather than the Croats who were just dickheads watching Croatian beauty Ana Ivanovic.

If they want to know respectful fervent support they should have watched the Greek & Cypriot fans who barracked for Marcos Baghdatis in 2006, THAT was quality support(and intense passion)

i can't deny having had run-ins with them with my old crew in the NSL. a fuckin joke and a real embarassment to the good croats i know (i.e. real croats, that live in croatia).

who was your nsl team?

Tracey, slip of the finger..did mean to say that Ana was Serbian but you picked up my error Embarassed
As for the Greek Cyp fans, apart from the fact there are no Turkish stars on the circuit(apart from Ipek Seloglu on the WTA side) i'm sure that the Greek Cyp fans wouldn't be the slightest bit interested in seeing a Turk Play, unless they were playing a Greek Cyp.

All the Serb & Croat fans obviously only watched their players and weren't the slightest bit interested in the tennis otherwise .

A real shame. Whilst there does seem to be the odd club (correct me if Im wrong, but I was under the impression that Velez Mostar of Bosnia were pretty left wing and relatively inclusive – they seem to be very keen on plastering hammer and sickles all over walls in the city, and Ive read they have a greater mix of Bosnian/Serbian/Croatians amidst their ranks than say their rivals Zrinjski), it does seem that so many fans from the Eastern Europe seem to have become disheartened with their home clubs due to the right wing direction their ultras have taken. I met various people in Belgrade for example who used to go to Red Star but have given up due to the violence and bigotry (not to mention weak opposition).

Hope things improve.

just to say hi...
i'm watching for st.pauli for several years now, and visit this forum regulary (thanks Zim for match reports Very Happy ) I'm little off topic, but always happy to see the name of my club Velez Mostar respected as anti-faschist left-wing club so I had to post. Just to say that we have red star on our players shirts, and club flag, but unlike "red star - belgrade", our star is not there for decorations reasons, but to represent the nature of our club.

All best from Mostar...

Hi!

Well Velez did seem to be in stark contrast to your neighbours! I stayed on the Velez side (well the Velez side seeing as Zrinjski have your old stadium now) when I was in Mostar. Very friendly people, ludicrously strong coffee and being a United fan I loved the Red Army tshirts on sale. Had never been in a mosque before either so was glad to get the opportunity in Mostar. Lovely place and I always enjoy watching the videos of the Velez fans - particularly this one...

First I heard of a left wing team in the former Yugoslavia. Politics is far more complicated in E Europe where history, religion and a number of other things can often get mixed into it.

I have met a few 'dodgy' fans from E Europe over the years but for the most part found them to be pretty cool. Very fanatical, very passionate, just don't talk about politics.

From what I understand there are a few teams in Greece with strong left wing support and in Turkey Besiktas have a small left wing support as do Fenerbahce.

Having gone to a few Hajduk Split while visiting the Outlaws it is as plain as the nose on your face what way they lean in regards to politics. My Wife won't go to football games and the reason is twofold.

1)Women are not encouraged to attend Football games as the "boys"feel it's a bastion of Manhood.

2)Fear of violence (well founded)

My wife would translate the songs and Banners on display and I found it disturbing,They had a black player on their team and Dinamo had Eduardo on theirs, then the Monkey noises started. The thinking was we will put Eduardo off his game but never mind Munoz playing for us as he will understand we don't mean him"what logic"
When Dinamo and Hajduk play each other in Zagreb or Split ,one thing is for sure trouble is not far behind.Buses,Shop windows,Cars all get some special treatment from these yobs.
My in-laws live beside a guy who dresses in Black and drives a care littered with Ustashi SHITE.If you don't know who the Ustashi are I will give you some info.Ustashi were a facist mob who fought with the Nazi in Yugoslavia during WW11.Ante Pavlic was the leader and a right Bastard he was too.If you weren't Croatian ,you were nothing and you were given a dogs life in return with the added outcome of death as you only salvation
from the treatment dished out by these Animals.
What is scary is their neighbour is not the only one who thinks like this.

I have told my wife about the anti Sexist feeling at St Pauli .WE are coming over to see a game and I hope it is the first of many.........

Needles to say I don't go to games in Croatia anymore....
