Those days of passionate support from English teams died out with the demise of terracing and will never be seen again.
The death-knell was sounded when that despicable premier league was formed as the money-grabbing scumbags have killed the English game.
The main reason that a lot of us now prefer to watch our football at grass-roots.

BTW; welcome aboard and no doubt Geordie Les will be greeting you shortly.

Forza Sankt Pauli

Thanks for the welcome!

A couple of us in BORO are trying to get some atmosphere started at the riverside, dunno if we too late for next season with seating arrangments etc, but something is needed I remember the good old days at Ayresome Park the atmosphere was electric and it wasnt too bad in the early years at the riverside either but the game is dying in England now. Crying or Very sad

I was at Boro v Derby earlier this year and I actually thought that considering the quality of the match the atmosphere was relatively good - compared to what I've seen elsewhere in the UK anyway. If you could get a wee singing section together to coordinate things I reckon you could get a pretty decent atmosphere going.

In the late 70s I lived, for a time, in a house with some students about 50 metres from Ayresome Park. I had to move my car down to the Poly (where I worked) on match days. I used to go along occasionally, especially to mid-week games and agree with you that the atmosphere could get pretty frantic. My favourite Boro player was 'Spike', although I was usually a neutral - something I could never be at Joker Park or the Stadium of Shite. Shocked

A Geordie sided with Boro Mmmm well I never, lol

TBH I couldnt do that for the Mags or the Mackems Sad Spike was a bit before my time.

But yes Ayresome could be a cauldron of noise.

My excuse was I lived with two Boro supporters! Doubt I could do it now with all that giant foam hand, face painting, pigbag nonsense. Boro were a decent side to watch then, David Hodgson, Craig Johnstone, Spike, Souness (the bastard) etc. and as you say the ground was a proper footy ground with a proper footy crowd.
When you played us the atmosphere was poisonous though! The Holgate End contained some real knuckle-draggers! Laughing
I used to go to watch Hartlepool as well. Still do from time to time.

Bhachgen your not the first non boro fan whos visted the riverside and thought the atmosphere was ok the last non boro fan was with us was a celtic fan and he thought it was better than other grounds hed been to Liverpool blackburn etc. Which i was suprised at.

Geordie Les,there is a misconception over the last few years that boro get these foam hands out etc and start getting into pigpag lol in actual fact most boro fans I know hate pigbag and only start clapping at big matches. Wink
