In the Sunday game, I guess any of the home fans who shout out

'Gimme a 'U'!.....'

is pretty much a dead man walking! Laughing

The previous weekend, i joined Lee and some like-minded others on the
Swedish groundhop around Stockholm where we saw 7 games in 3 days.

All non-league of course varying from the 4th division down to the 7th division and some stunning venues especially Roslagskulla If,in the middle of nowhere by the edge of a lake.

Favourite for me was the wonderfully named Fagersjo Bois who took on Arsta AIK.
The faggies were firmly entrenched at the bottom of Div.7 and contrived to lose this one less badly at 1-6 !
The visitors brought on a 50year old sub who looked rather like an ageing Terry Yorath and he had the audacity to score.
Fagersjos' no.11 had the most stupid haircut seen more a long while.

The weather certainly wasn't kind to us as it pissed it down for most of the weekend, so fortunately there were just 2 games played on real grass

A very bizarre 3 days as we had the delights of seeing linesman with umbrellas, goalkeepers wearing bench coats, linesman going walkabout and nearly falling over in the puddles whilst trying to be an arse, and a ridiculous looking bulldog at Kronobergs BK, not to mention Peruvians who had a 'keeper who looked like "El Loco" Ramon Quiroga from the 1978 WC and a coach who tucked his trackie pants into his socks and lloked like MC Hammer.

Swedish non-league is certainly an experience Very Happy

I know that i'll never be able to look at a church in the same way after being introduded to moderntoss.com

After 4 barren weeks without any football and 6 weeks since my last UK game, today i headed up to SE London and the home of Long Lane FC at Kidbrooke playing fields ! as OPK FC of the KCL Div 2 West took on Kent League side Faversham Town FC.
OPK FC are named and were formed to remember Owen Patrick Kelly who lost his young life at 17 months old and they're a go-ahead club who'll be moving into the old Darenth FC ground next season.
Just a few minutes walk away from Kidbrooke and just off the A2 Rochester Way took me to the home of Long Lane FC.
On a tiny pitch, Faversham held the advantage 2-1 at the break.
Marlon Button scored a stunning equaliser that crashed in off the underside of the bar before Faversham scored three late goals to seal a 5-2 win.
Not the best game but should have been a few more goals from Faversham !

I've taken in a non-league Japanese match between Maruoka and someone else and have been to our (Cardiff) new ground twice so far, Legends game and a 4-0 defeat of Chasetown.
Off to Aldershot tomorrow - ground no. 73/92! (and I'm only 15!)

Finally did Arnold Town's Eagle Valley for friendly vs the latest spoilt bastard team Notts County. 1200 on, all speculating about Beckham going to Meadow Lane. Is it just me who smells a rat here?

Notts won 7-0. Poor Guinness quality, though I noticed that they sell Nottingham Brewery IPA in bottles. Too busy to bother sampling food.

Haven't done my home town's new ground yet, but when I do I'll relieve them of a bottle of that IPA. It's good stuff - think they also sell it at Radford FC.

Saturday was the first round of the Alba Challenge Cup in Scotland, so Lee & i took advantage of a bonus game on Sunday.
Airdrie United took on Partick Thistle at the New Broomfield Stadium which is a 15 minute wander from Drumgelloch.
Our walk took us through a rather rundown estate on our way to the ground which is hosting European football as Motherwell are playing their UEFA Cup games here.
It's a bland, tidy and functional stadium which holds around 10k, but only opposite sides were open today.
A truly dire match in the first half led us to again question our sanity, but Partick managed to score after the break which then made the game somewhat better, but still nothing to write home about.
The programme seller was a decent guy who asked where we were from and seemed genuinely interested and two of the local plod asked us what we thought the score would be.

Sunday took us to Dumbarton against Greenock Morton in the Alba challenge, the match having been switched to a wedding do that had been booked there on Saturday !
A picturesque setting directly below the famous Dumbarton rock, but sadly only a one sided ground as the stand sits with the rock behind it which if placed opposite would give a fabulous view.
Morton brought around 350/ish with the segregation area consisting of a few metres of white plastic chain !
Again the game was dire but better that yesterdays' offering with Morton scoring the only goal in the first half.

Met up with Lee at Kings Langley as we took in the Herts Charity shield first round tie against London Colney at Gaywood Park.
A pleasant enough venue with a smallish new wooden stands and floodlights now installed.
After the dross we saw in Scotland last weekend, this was a lot better as London Colney took a three-goal lead into ht with the third being a lovely curler into the top corner.
The hosts pulled one back after we'd departed to the clubhouse for an intake of hot fluids Wink
Can't really remember much about the second half apart from it was better than Airdries' first half !

Only my second pre-season friendly tonight as with my Canterbury City hat firmly on, i headed the short 10mins stroll down to Southwood.
Ramsgate were due to take on Slade Green but due to their demise-having resigned from the Kent league- Canterbury stepped in instead in another tough test against teams from higher steps.

Ramsgate started with just two of their successful Ryman Championship-winning side remaining and i wasn't too familiar with their squad, whilst i was rather more familiar with most of Canterburys' line-up.

City started well and their efforts were duly rewarded when the hard-working Karl Williams scored a rare goal to give City the half-time lead.

Second half was rather more up in the air literally with Ramsgate equalising with around 20mins left.

A very good performance from Canterbury and a pretty entertaining PSF

On reflection, i'd predict that Canterbury may well go onto challenge for a third successive promotion since reformation whilst on tonights' preformance Ramsgate look to be struggling again-but i hope i'm wrong there.

They could be in the same league next season...

My season so far is as follows:

Sat 4 Jul Congleton Town v Chasetown (1-2) Friendly
Not a bad ground, game played at a very leisurely pace. Chasetown's keeper would have been sent off had it not been a friendly for pulling down a Congleton player in front of goal.

Sat 11 Jul Milton United v Didcot Town (1-7) Friendly
Basic ground. Milton shite.

Sat 18 Jul Mildenhall Town v Cambridge City (1-1) Friendly
Ground a little less developed than I expected. Mildenhall have got a decent team and could challenge at the top of the Eastern Counties.

Tue 21 Jul East Fife v Dunfermline Athletic (1-7) Friendly
Dross.

Wed 22 Jul Craigroyston v Hibernian U19 (0-2) Friendly
Railed off parks pitch. Friendly club, but can't see me going for Junior Football north of the border.

Thu 23 Jul Stamford v Northampton Town (0-2) Friendly
Lovely little ground. Stamford played most of the game with 10 men following a tasty foul. Cobblers won without trying, despite having a few youth team players.

Fri 24 Jul Matlock Town v Chesterfield (2-5) Banner Jones Cup
Great ground, even if it is in the devil's county. Chesterfield walked it, although Mark Crossley did save a penalty at 0-3.

Sat 25 Jul Airdrie United v Partick Thistle (0-1) Scottish Challenge Cup 1st Round
Dross to the max. I fell asleep.
Sun 26 Ju Dumbarton v Greenock Morton (0-1) Scottish Challenge Cup 1st Round
Dross.
Thu 30 Jul Cranfield United v Wootton Blue Cross (3-5) Friendly
Basic ground. Shite defending.

Sat 1 Aug Kings Langley v London Colney (1-3) Hertfordshire FA Charity Shield 1st Round
First competitive game of the season. Not a bad match at all, with London Colney flying in the first half.

Tue 4 Aug New Bradwell St Peter v Windsor & Eton (2-2) Friendly
Nice covered stand, not much else. W&E were shit, and need to do a lot better if they are to push for promotion again.

On Saturday I headed out to the small town of Outwell to see Wisbech Town at their temporary home against Stanway Rovers. The game was pretty one-sided as Stanway raced into a three-goal lead. In the second half Wisbech pretty much kicked the crap out of their guests, and managed to pull one back with a cracking long range effort.
The ground was pretty basic, but had been through some major improvements to allow Wisbech to play there.
