Has anyone ever took in the delights (?) of a beach bar in Hamburg?

The closest to St Pauli will be the Strand Pauli in the Hafenstrasse. Meant to go down last summer but got stuck in the Eck as you do. Going back over in July so is it worth going down if it's a sunny day/night?

Hi Celtic - in answer to your question yes on a very regular basis....they should have re-opened last weekend so all you will need is some sunshine which at the moment is not guaranteed!!.

I'll see if I can dig some pics out as well but Les has covered it pretty well.

If you walk down stream from Fischmarkt you will probably come across two or three beach bars.....each had its own charm last year so worth trying all. Concepts and ownerships do change as does popularity. Last summer they all did food which was generally pretty good anything from snacks to full blown meals. Just grab yourselfs some deck chairs, enjoy relaxing watching the boats on the elbe and the nice local girlies Smile))) (until Frau Sherwood hits me in the ribs......) and take in some good sounds all at the same time...bliss Very Happy

Yeah that’s it I think Les, thanks.

No doubts when I am over it will be pissing down. In fact, it always seems to be when I am in Hamburg – be it in the spring, summer, autumn or winter.

You could take the no.62 harbour ferry from Landungsbrücken (pier 3) to Övelgönne beach.

If the weather's not too good, don't get off, stay on the ferry to Finkerwerder and go to the Stadt Hamburg bar on Auedeich.

The pictures don't show Strand Pauli, but the "Strandperle" (Pearl of the Beach). It's not a beach club but a nice bar at the beach. They have chairs etc., but you can also sit in the sand and just get the stuff you didn't bring along. Might save some money ;)

This is Strand Pauli:

It's the least "posh" one. I like it a lot, though the drinks can get expensive. Some 6,50 Euro for a Cuba Libre is not overpriced for such a location, but with the sun shining while lounging on a comfortable beach chair you don't wanna leave and order more than you should...

There were more beach clubs further down - first right after the Fischmarkt, then they moved further down the Elbe, now they had to move again and are right next to the Landungsbrücken and the Alter Elbtunnel. Haven't been this year yet, so I cannot say how they are this year, but they were always nice as well, one even featured a pool.
One of these 3 beach clubs is the one that started this in Hamburg:

Just seen on their website: the "Rote Gourmet Fraktion“ is doing the food this year - should be good! They did the tour catering for Die Ärzte and many other bands etc.
