Also got the deluxe, but not given the covers cd a blast yet. Been playing their tunes to death Cool

Gonna see the Minds in Cardiff, december, OMD are also on the bill, should be a double whammy !!

Why did the uk not give the genius Stuart Adamson a chance in the 90's??
Really pisses me off that such a great song writer left us in the manner that he did.

Les, have you ever seen 'Dead Men Walking' live?

Not sure when DMW will tour again, but I'm sure they will some time.
I just thought that it was typical poor advertisement in Bristol that they are a mystery to people, but it is understandable when a band that has never recorded anything under its name comes to town that people scratch their heads !!

There are 3 main guys in DMW, Mike Peters (the Alarm), Kirk Brandon (Spear of Destiny/Theatre of Hate) & Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats). For several years, until last year, they have toured with guest musicians across the UK & even played some gigs across the pond in the States, inc a gig at CBGB's before it closed down.

Other artists to perform with them over the years inc Pete Wylie, Billy Duffy, Glen Matlock, Bruce Watson & Captain Sensible.

They perform 4 or 5 songs from each of their respective bands repertoires. So a great couple of hours is always guaranteed. 2 particular performances stand out for me. When they toured with Duffy & Matlock, that was a fantastic gig in Bristol & the Leeds gig from that tour is available on cd. The last time they toured they played in a smaller venue in Bristol that was packed, which helped, Capt Sensible was with them on that occasion & it was a belter of a set.

The driving force is definitely Mike Peters, a top top bloke & very underestimated. You can see when they are on stage together that they are having just as much fun as the crowd.

They have all been busy over the last year or so recording & touring with their bands. Last week, while in a bar in Munich, after the DM gig, I got chatting with a guy from London & another from Brum. They said that they had seen the Damned & the Alarm, in London, the night before the DM gig. They both said that the Alarm blew the Damned away. That is down to Peters enthusiasm & terrific song writing I pointed out, they agreed. Both are going to add an Alarm cd or 2 to their collections.

RavenW, how did the Download festival go?

My lad loved it, said Pendulum stole the show.

@ Ciderbiker......ah DMW now there's a name.

I saw them in the Peters/Brandon/Matlock/Wylie combination at the local Palace Theatre having driven 230 odd miles back from Taunton on a stormy Friday night. I'd happily spend money on seeing them again as it was a really good night.

At the interval Mike, Kirk and Glen were all drinking and chatting at the bar with the 50 or so punters all very friendly...might be doing him a disservice but don't remember Pete Wylie having a drink.

Wasn't there a studio album produced a couple of years ago "Graveyard Smashes" or something similar?

Yeah, Graveyard Smashes is correct, but it is not new material. As in the live shows its from their back catalogues, the Damned, Alarm, Stray Cats & S.O.D. & as the media look upon these guys as being old dinosaurs not worth a mention the album slipped under the radar completely unnoticed so nobody was none the wiser.

A collaboration worth checking out from a decade ago if you don't already know it is Coloursound, Mike Peters & Billy Duffy. Ebay or Amazon would be the best chance to get that cd album.

I'm hoping that DMW will tour again next year. I have done my best down here to let people know who they are & everybody that has seen them on my advice has thanked me because they loved the gigs & would never have known otherwise. Like you say, 50 people at their gigs, its a shame, but you do get to meet them for a chat. The last time though, there were a good few hundred at the fleece'n'firkin. Not sure of its capacity, but it was full Cool

Hi all / ciderbiker

Donington went pretty damn good, as usual Smile Highlights were definately Trivium on the Sunday, and finally getting to see Faith No More (on the Friday). But pretty much all good, right from Steadlur on the Friday kickoff. Quite liked Billy Boy On Poison, despite being a bit dubious about the name.

And despite a little bit of mud on the thurs, as usual the weather was Cool Being of the Scottish persuasion, it does bring my freckles out!

Only 2 lowlights, missing Lacuna Coil again and a small blister on a finger from a cigarette I never noticed burning where i was going to sit.. probably lucky it was only my finger and I was able to sit for the rest of the weekend.

Spotted a St Pauli shirt on the sunday during ZZ Top (yeah I know, this isnt the spotters thread), didn't get to say hello as we were talking to couple of Welsh guys (they do like to talk, the Welsh!). And yeah... zz top... with a beer in the sun...nostalgia IS what it used to be!

I aint gonna say how much we spent on pints over the weekend. Suffice to say I was walking around with a cardboard mug of Tuborg in either hand at the very end, which I certainly dont need to drink again for another year. Started tonight with bottle of "Death or Glory" from Tring Brewery, for the beer fans on here.

And nobody fell on my tent in the middle of the night! This was tactical pitching, too many of those experiences.

Anyway, I stuck a very few pictures up at

One of the very first albums (well tapes for me) I ever bought for myself was the Alarm - Declaration. This thread definately brings back memories! Some excellent stuff on that album, unlike the other one I bought that day!

Rob was right about the new Simple Minds CD. Got to be played loud though!

Glad you like it Les. I play it loud as hell in my work vehicle. You would most probably like their previous album 'Black & White 050505' as well. There are some cracking songs on that one as well. I saw them in Amsterdam on the Black & White tour 2006, they played 6 tracks off New Gold Dream, a great album & concert. Really looking forward to seeing them again this year.

RavenW I also have Declaration, on crackly vinyl. It is another great album. I saw them on the Declaration tour in 1984, an energy packed performance by the spiky haired boys. They brought out a cracking good album 'In The Poppy Fields' back in 2004. I was lucky to acquire an 18 track cd with the original versions of the songs on that album, brilliant.

They tricked their way into the charts with a song '45rpm' from that album. Radio 1 gave it some airplay as they were hoodwinked into thinking that they had discovered a new up and coming band called 'The Poppy Fields' but the Alarm came clean when the song hit the charts. Radio 1, having loved the song, immediately dropped it from their play list because the Alarm were too old. Arseholes.

@ R2D2 - Hopefully you'll find some time during the day for a few jars in the Gaping Goose?

Back from the Ollesummer in Estonia. It was an eventful time with pretty mixed up weather.

Moby went down very well with the locals with probably the biggest audience of the 5 days.

I enjoyed local acts 'Ines' (she's beautiful) & 'The Sun' (a spectacular show on the main stage) both on a very wet saturday night, but managed to watch both from under cover Very Happy

& the beer(lager) was not so bad Forever, certainly better than the undrinkable lager on tap here in the UK.
