Well done Schulawski!
Meanwhile, the Danish Press linked us to Mike Jensen of Bröndby IF. 21 years of age and in Denmarks U21 team. He is under contract till 31.12.09 and I don't think we could afford to spend more money on transfer fees (having paid one twice in one season - it's been a long time since we even paid a transfer fee for just one player, Gunesch I think). He might play a role in Stani's plans for the winter break, but only if we really need help by then. |

David Hoilett is apparently to recieve a work permit to play in the UK, so will definately not be going back to Germany next season.
As a Rovers fan, I'm looking forward to seeing if he can carry on his form into next season and the Premier League! |

That David was gone was apparent by now. that the Rovers actually succeeded in getting him a work permit is quite interesting though.
Hope you guys enjoy him as much as we did and hopefully he won't just play for the reserves. good luck! |

Stani sharing his thoughts on the season to come.
2. Bundesliga06.07.2009 16:21:18
Coach Holger Stanislawski promises attacking football for the new campaign Auspicious start for FC St. Pauli
Despite losing some key players of last season, 2. Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli have enjoyed a promising pre-season training so far and aim to provide tenacious competition for the those top sides looking to get promoted.
Fans of the legendary Hamburg based club didnt have to worry long after it was made public that Filip Trojan (FSV Mainz 05), David Hoilett (Blackburn Rovers FC) and Alexander Ludwig (TSV 1860 Munich) would leave to seek a new challenge. St. Pauli reacted quickly to the loss of their creative midfielders and signed Max Kruse (from Werder Bremen), Matthias Lehmann (Alemannia Aachen) and Charles Takyi (SpVgg Greuther Fürth) to replace them. It's only been a few days since St. Pauli kicked off the new season with their first day of training, but after having worked intensively during two boot-camps, it became obvious their new midfield has potential to even outshine last seasons centrepiece.
Goals galore
Coach Holger Stanislawski was amazed by how "unbelievably fit" players returned from their summer holidays, a fact that was underlined by dedicated performances in their first test matches. First, they won 23-1 against TSV Süstedt, before pitiful Elmschenhagen were thrashed 21-1 just days later. Obviously St. Pauli will face tougher calibres than these two lower league clubs in the months to come, but the team gave a good indication that the coach's philosophy of constant attacking-football will be honoured in the new season as well.
First weeks promise tough start
When St. Pauli's competitive season begins with a DFB Cup tie at FC 08 Villingen, a team from fifth division, they better have all guns ready for battle. They arguably have the most difficult opening schedule of all 2. Bundesliga sides with matches against heavyweights Aachen, MSV Duisburg and Karlsruher SC after kicking off the 2. Bundesliga campaign with a home match versus Rot-Weiss Ahlen.
Last year St. Pauli finished in mid-table, and although they had spells when they were close to the promotion ranks, coach Stanislawski remains cautious when formulating the aims for this season. Highest priority remains keeping a good distance to the relegation spots at all times, but when they see their chance of intervening at the top, they'll try to pounce on it. St. Pauli have enough quality and fighting spirit in the squad and - perhaps even more importantly an unbelievably passionate fan base to accomplish great things this year. If they can erase the away weakness from their game, St. Pauli may be at the start of an unforgettable season.

I hope so too... but chances are we'll stick him on the bench to rot.
Premier league managers are generally terrified to take even the slightest risk with a team sheet. |

Yes, I was aware that the chances of him being seen in a Pauli shirt again were rare - I just thought most of us that follow German footy felt that he'd end up moving to a BL team - and I'm glad thats not the case!
Also I reckon he'll get a good chance next season at Rovers, Pedersen hasn't really done anything of note for a season and wouldn't have made as many appearances as he did last season had Sergio Peter not believed his own hype.... |

Is he a LW then??? I plead pure ignorance since I first heard about him a month ago (and St Pauli then too).
If thats the case he'll struggle to surplant Pedersen - For all his lack of fireworks he has been a very steady player for us in the last year.
Also Sergio Peter - - purely that someone has heard of him.
I really though he would kick Pedersen down into the reserves and never look back - until I saw him play. |

He's played on the left, I'm not sure if it's his natural position, but he's got the skills to play wide. |

For some reason David Hoilett might end up in Mainz. I don't really understand how (especially after the Rovers have gone through the whole work permit appeal process) but news agencies in Germany seem to think he is going there. His little brother (who played in our youth team) already seems to be there. |

Well I think that spreads from a pretty weak rumour and fan fiction on transfermarkt.de which leads me to believe its lazy journalism - when I checked last wek the rumour was at 25% and its now at 22%. I'm off to the Rovers friendly at Leeds tomorrow, i'll look out for him.
From what I saw of his time at Pauli he looked a bit of a 'joker' with the ability to come in from the left or right, kinda like a Ryan Babel style, but I'm sure theres folk on here that have seen the full games he played in, rather than the highlights I rely on.

no further news other than that Ian Joy is currently training with us. He is looking for a club and Stani obviously allowed him to take part in training sessions till he has found one. as much as I like his attitude (and tattoo ) he shouldn't be an option for us as he wouldn't help and we're pretty ok defensively. |

Ian Joy doing a Beckham? Not the tattoos but the realisation that the MLS is a bit, well, Mickey Mouse? |

as far as I know/read, his former wife moved back to Scotland after they split up. Now he wants to be closer because of the child. _________________ Irish Folk&Rebel from St.Pauli:

He didn't really find a home in the MLS either. He played enough games as a left back, and played on a team that had a very good defensive record. But Salt Lake is nothing like Hamburg at all really. The pay isn't anything to write home about... There's really nothing that the MLS has that St Pauli doesn't have better.
I think he'd be a fine left back, a good signing for depth reasons... And yes, I am biased in hoping for an American on the team. |
