Adelaide United, my local club in the Australian A-League.
Founded in 2003 to represent Adelaide in the National Soccer League (now defunct).

Adelaide United
2008-09 A-League Grand Final - Runner Up*
2008-09 A-League Premiership - Runner Up*
2008 Club World Cup - 5th
2008 AFC Champions League - Runner Up
2006-07 A-League Grand Final - Runner Up*
2006-07 A-League Premiership - Runner Up*
2005-06 A-League Premiership - Premier
2003-04 NSL Season - 3rd

The reason I like St Pauli:
"The organization has taken up an outspoken stance against racism, fascism, sexism, and homophobia and has embodied this position in its constitution". -Wikipedia entry.
Yeah, the culture of the club, not to mention the brown shirts!
Looking forward to following the coming season more closely.

*Runner up to Melbourne Victory

Auckland kingz away
perth glory away

cant remember the home game who they played but half time at perth glory someone in a monkey outfit performed a wedding ceremony for a very happy couple

ahh, the Kingz, that were the times when you were able to watch some decent football in Auckland... they are long gone as well. Down here, most of the clubs seem to have a life expectancy of no more than 5 to 6 seasons. right now the only New Zealand team playing in the A-League are the Wellington Phoenix...

Adelaide Force (Originally Juventus->Adelaide Juventus->Adelaide City->Adelaide Force->Adelaide City again) play at the top level of the local Adelaide league, they dropped out of the National league in 2003 due to finances.
Adelaide United were born the same year to represent Adelaide in the league.

The NSL collapsed the following year & a new, professionally run league was created, the A-League.
Adelaide United, Perth Glory & Auckland Kingz (rebranded New Zealand Knights) were all included in the new league.

All the name changes by Adelaide City were to try & appeal to a wider audience, but the main problem was that they were perceived as an Italian club & others didn't feel included.

Some clues in this video as to why 'Adelaideh Cidy' didn't appeal to the wider community.

Well, you did say decent football in Auckland, but anyway, I'd say that Wellington have done more in 2 seasons than the Kingz/Knights did in 7.

although I dislike the Phoenix, their owner and their polished image, you're quite right about the Kingz. They were later called the Knights and then became defunct.
When the Kingz were still alive, you could go to their main ticket outlet in town - Mr Gordon's Laundry Service Shocked - and find Wynton Rufer hanging out, drinking a beer and even selling tickets... quite charming and reminded me always of the Millerntor....

Tell me more about why you dislike the Nux?
They seem to be professionally run, well supported & have nice kits (black & yellow stripes for 2009-10 Cool).

might just be a Auckland vs Wellington thing Rolling Eyes...
I just dislike the club and their owner for being so pretentious - e.g. inviting the Galaxy and Beckham. One of Terry Serepisos' goals is to leave "his" landmark in Wellington by building the tallest building of the city, "Serepisos Tower". what kind of goal is that? Confused
anyways, it is not much I know, but whatever, it's just not a club that I support, but then I really just support St. Pauli and Altona 93 Cool

An old rival Smile
I watched the 2007 Semi Final 2nd leg v Urawa & was cheering for the Chunma. To go out on penalties must have been hard to take :(

Our season starts in 4 weeks, there is a lot of concern that we will really miss big Sasa.
Is he getting a lot of game time?

We've qualified for next year's ACL, but it looks like you're struggling this season.
Hopefully you can make it into the playoffs & hopefully meet us again in the ACL Smile

I've got relatives in Adelaide and they're huge Adelaide United fans. They sent me a shirt over a few years ago and I still wear it Very Happy
